All four teams are now full on The Voice — and this year’s blind auditions ended in style!
Gwen Stefani, Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire rounded out their teams on the Thursday, Oct. 15 episode of the hit NBC competition series, recruiting their final selections in one last round of auditions.
Notable picks included Cassidy Lee, who previously auditioned unsuccessfully for season 18, Jose Luis, whose take on an Olivia Rodrigo hit earned him a four-chair turn, and Aliyah Khaylyn, who nailed an emotional ballad.
Lee, 28, was disappointed when no chairs turned for her during season 18 in 2020. But she returned with a rocking, raspy take on “You’re No Good,” which earned her a spot on Team Michael.
“As I was watching you, I was thinking a couple things. First I was thinking, ‘Thank you Jesus, that these coaches touched their buttons so many times they’re not gonna do it again.’ ‘Cause I hear something in your voice that is unique,” Bublé told Lee. “It’s really feminine, but at the same time you’ve got this rocking growl that I was like, ‘Oof.’”
Luis, meanwhile, caught the attention of all four coaches with “Traitor” by Rodrgio — but ultimately went with Team Gwen.
“You’re so beautiful!” he told the “Purple Irises” singer as he went in for a hug and completed her team.
Luis, who is from Puerto Rico, said his native territory has “evolved slowly,” and he’s often felt out of place in the more masculine culture.
“There’s still a lot of like, if you’re a man you have to be this way,” he said. “But I love fashion and arts and performance so I felt like an outcast for most of my life. But I think that music created a space for me to feel welcomed… I aspire to make an impact and I want to be a pop artist like Lady Gaga.”
Later in the show, contestant Khaylyn, 23, also wowed the coaches with Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War,” prompting button pushes from McEntire, Snoop and Bublé.
“This show is called The Voice, right, so we’re looking for a voice. But it’s not just about having a voice,” said Bublé. “It’s about you having the ability to come out here and just have light shine out of you. I wish I could sing like you. I would win this competition, I think.”
Though she called it possibly the “hardest decision” she’d ever made, Khaylyn opted to be on Team Michael, which filled the final open spot on the star’s team.
Khaylyn joining the team had Bublé feeling good… really good. So good, in fact, that he got up and serenaded the crowd with a few lines of “Feeling Good.”
“This is a big moment for me, because in my first season, my team is full,” he said, before singing, “And I’m feeling good.”
“Was that too much?” he asked after, to which Stefani insisted, “No, no.”
“No that wasn’t enough!” Snoop added, before leading a “Bublé!” chant.
For Khaylyn, the emotional audition marked a special moment following the 2021 loss of her mother, who’d long been a pillar of support.
“Even though my mother is not here, she is here in spirit. I know it would mean a lot to her that I continued healing through my art and my craft,” Khalyn said. “This has been truly a blessing. I’m just really excited.”
