Itâs been 20 years since Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler stepped into the iconic mask and white dress to bring The Phantom of the Opera to the big screen.
The movie, which was released widely in the U.S. on Jan. 21, 2005, is filled with all of the iconic moments from Andrew Lloyd Webberâs iconic musical that made it the longest running show in Broadway history.
Now, 20 years later, see what the filmâs star-studded cast is up to today.
Gerard Butler

Emmy Rossum
The early 2000s were a busy time for Emmy Rossum who not only landed the role of Christine in Phantom but also appeared in movies such as Mystic River and The Day After Tomorrow. Starting in 2016 she starred as Maya DiMeo in Speechless for the showâs three season run. She later appeared on multiple episodes of Will & Grace and The Serpent Queen and most recently lent her voice to Arcane.
Driver became a mom in 2008 when she welcomed son Henry (she chose to keep his fatherâs identity a secret). In 2024, Driver marked her six-year anniversary with partner Addison OâDea.
Miranda Richardson
Miranda Richardson had more than two decades worth of screen and stage credits when she stepped into the role of Madame Giry in Phantom, including Oscar-nominated performances in 1992âs Damage and 1994âs Tom & Viv.
