Teddi Mellencamp revealed she suffered a scary health incident that left her covered in painful sores.
âI thought I had the flu. And then I woke up one day and my whole body was just covered in, like, this terrible rash â like, you canât even say itâs a rash because itâs almost like sores all over my entire body,â the reality star told co-host Tamra Judge on Tuesdayâs episode of their âTwo Ts in a Podâ podcast.
According to Mellencamp, the sores âhurt and they burned,â so doctors at urgent care told her to get to the emergency room as fast as possible. Â
At the hospital, the podcast host discovered that a new medication she was on caused Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Per the Mayo Clinic, it âis a rare, serious disorder of the skin and mucous membranes.â
Much like what Mellencamp experienced, the reaction starts with flu-like symptoms, before turning into a painful rash. The layer of the skin that was impacted will begin to shed with new skin coming in.
People with cancer are at a much higher risk of experiencing this reaction.
Mellencamp revealed her stage 2 melanoma diagnosis in October 2022 before undergoing more than a dozen surgeries.
In 2025, the âRHOBHâ alum had an emergency procedure to remove several tumors in her brain.
Despite the disease spreading to her lungs, in October, Mellencamp, 44, shared that her cancer was gone.
While not âin remission,â Mellencamp has begun immunotherapy.
âIâm not considered in remission or anything like that,â she confessed on her podcast at the time. âThe way the [doctors] said it works, itâs like one year, then two years, then at three years youâre allowed to be considered ⊠in remission.â
However, her ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave, said the immunotherapy is âreally hard on her mental health.â
âOne of the hardest things for her is she really canât work out,â the businessman explained to âThe Edsâ podcast listeners in January, noting that his ex is âjust starting to move her bodyâ again.
âSheâs going through the immunotherapy [and] that alone causes some side effects,â the 48-year-old, who shares kids Slate, 12, Cruz, 11 and Dove, 6, with Mellencamp elaborated.
In January, fans were worried after the fitness coachâs dad, John Mellencamp, said that his daughter was âreally sickâ and âsuffering.â
âItâs not fâing fun,â the singer said while on the âJoe Rogan Experienceâ podcast at the time. âSheâs got cancer in the brain, and sheâs suffering right now.â
Mellencamp later set the record straight on âTwo Ts in a Podâ, stating: âYou know, I think when he said the words âsuffering,â he meant like, how Iâm mentally doing versus how Iâm physically doing.â
âInstantly people thought, âOh my God, cancerâs back,ââ Judge, 58, said.
âNo, thereâs still no trace of cancer. But Iâm still considered stage four and Iâm still in immunotherapy, so essentially nothingâs changed other than I still â I donât feel great ⊠I would hope that I would be feeling better by now, but I really donât,â Mellencamp clarified.
These days, the star is expressing her gratitude for how far sheâs come. In February, she penned a touching post on Instagram to mark the first anniversary of her brain surgery.
âA year ago today I went into the ER thinking I had migraines and within 24 hours was having surgery on the plum-sized stage 4 tumors on my brain,â Mellencamp captioned a photo of her in the hospital.
âI have a lot of anxiety surrounding today but also a lot of gratitude,â she continued. âGratitude for the doctors and nurses who took care of me, gratitude for my family and friends for supporting me, and gratitude for all the love that you have poured into me. Trust your instincts. Get checked â€ïž.â
