Taylor Swift steals the show in first red carpet appearance since wedding

Taylor Swift made a dazzling return to the red carpet at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, stepping out in a black and silver gown for her first red carpet appearance since marrying Travis Kelce.

The singer, 36, arrived at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on September 27 wearing a Tamara Ralph design that paired a sculpted black halter bodice with a shimmering, floor-length silver skirt.

Taylor posed solo for the occasion, with her husband in Miami for the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Dolphins.

Taylor’s striking black and silver gown

The dress featured a high neckline and sweeping sheer panels that extended around Taylor’s waist and across her back. Its opaque black front curved asymmetrically over her hips, meeting the softly gathered silver skirt.

A side split revealed metallic sandals with delicate straps winding around her ankles, while the skirt’s sparkling fabric caught the light as she turned for photographers.

Taylor continued the silver theme with long, glittering drop earrings and statement rings, keeping her neckline free of jewellery to showcase the halter design.

Her shoulder-length hair was styled straight with gently flicked ends and her signature full fringe. Winged black eyeliner and peach-pink lipstick completed the look.

In one photograph, she rested a hand on her hip to reveal the gown’s draping. Another showed the sheer back and the narrow black ties falling from the neckline.

Life as a newlywed

The appearance comes nearly three months after Taylor and Travis married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Their wedding brought together family and famous friends, including Gigi Hadid and Gracie Abrams, for a celebration attended by approximately 1,000 guests. 

Since then, Taylor has been back in the stands supporting Travis as the NFL season gets underway. On September 20, she attended the Chiefs’ game against the Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium, joining her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, and Travis’ mother, Donna Kelce, in the family suite.

Wearing a Chiefs camisole and her wedding ring, Taylor watched as Travis scored a touchdown during the first quarter. It was her second consecutive appearance at one of his games this season.

A milestone night at the VMAs

Taylor’s return to the awards show also marked a major moment in her career as a filmmaker.

She was named the recipient of the inaugural Artist Director Honors, recognising her work behind the camera and contribution to music-video storytelling.

The honour was set to bring her total to 31 VMAs, taking her beyond the record of 30 she previously shared with Beyoncé. This year’s ceremony was hosted by Snoop Dogg. 

Taylor made her solo directorial debut with the video for “The Man” in 2020, winning Best Direction at that year’s VMAs.

She went on to direct All Too Well: The Short Film, which earned awards for Video of the Year, Best Longform Video and Best Direction, as well as a Grammy for Best Music Video.

Her directing credits also include “Anti-Hero”, “Bejeweled”, “Fortnight” and “Opalite”, adding another dimension to a career that has increasingly placed her in control of both the music and its accompanying visuals.
