Look what you made her do.
Taylor Swift revealed how she claps back against critics while appearing in the Grammy Museumās Icon Sessions that dropped Monday.
āSometimes when people are mocking me itās really fun to mock them back,ā Swift told Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. during a sit-down interview at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
āSometimes I like to just use words that they have to look up in order to talk sāt about,ā she continued with a laugh.
The pop star, 36, hit back at her critics, mocking a common criticism about her.
āItās like, anything you say, theyāre like, āOh, easy for you to say,āā she said in an exaggerated tone as the audience laughed.
Swift admitted that sometimes negative comments about herself āfuelsā her, but stressed that ultimately, itās not about getting validation.
āI realized that Iām making music because Iām playing for the fans,ā she said. āIām putting this out for people who care about it and who look to music as a way to cope with their life in the way that I did.ā
She added, āI think that if you can actually go through all those checkpoints, and realize that putting out music that youāve made that you love so much is not the path to universal validation, if youāre still doing it, then you love it for the right reasons.ā
She acknowledged that she chose a life in the spotlight.
āI go through several processes and coping mechanisms that Iāve gone through over the years and one of them is saying, āYou chose this. You chose this every day. You could have opted out of this any day before it got unmanageably big.āā
āAnd I decided not to because I love it that much,ā she continued. āAnd thatās just where it begins and where it ends. And everything that comes with this ultimately is worth it as long as I get to still make music.ā
Back in October, Swift said she welcomed critics of her latest album, āThe Life of a Showgirl.āā
āI welcome the chaos,ā Swift said in an interview with Apple Musicās Zane Lowe. āThe rule of show business is, if itās the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, youāre helping.ā
āIām not the art police,ā she quipped. āItās, like, everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want, and what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.ā
The āFate of Opheliaā singer has been out and about and proudly showing off her wedding ring since marrying Travis Kelce at their star-studded Madison Square Garden wedding in New York City last month.
