Taco Bell Reinvents Beloved Menu Item 5 Years After It Was Introduced

Chalupas are getting an extra cheesy twist.

On Thursday, March 27, Taco Bell announced its brand-new toasted cheddar street chalupas. The item, available now nationwide, takes the grilled outside of 2019’s toasted cheddar chalupa and shrinks it to the handheld-friendly size of the cheesy street chalupa introduced in 2024.

The toasted cheddar street chalupas have cheddar cheese baked into the fried shells. Then, the crispy yet fluffy shells get filled with onions, cilantro, shredded cheese, chile lime crema and the choice of slow-roasted Cantina chicken or grilled steak. The menu item is sold as a pair (but needs to be the same protein for both) for $5.50. 

Fans can also get a taste of the chalupas in a Discovery Luxe Box. The toasted cheddar street chalupa meal deal includes the new chalupas (duh), one nacho cheese Doritos Locos taco, one crunchy taco, cinnamon twists and a medium drink for $9.

Reward members can try the new item for just $1 next month. On April 15, as part of the chain’s weekly Tuesday Drop, app users can get the almost-freebie from 5 p.m. ET to 6 p.m. ET.

Also new to the menu is the Caliente Cantina Chicken nacho fries. Slow-roasted chicken, nacho cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, tortilla chip strips, sour cream and Caliente sauce are piled on top of fries. The loaded fries are a fresh take on the Caliente Cantina Chicken menu that dropped in February 2024.

Earlier this year, Taco Bell celebrated 20 years of tacos, burritos, chalupas and more with a twist on a classic: steak and queso Crunchwrap sliders.

The mini version of the beloved menu item was first released on Thursday, Feb. 27 and features steak, chipotle sauce, pico de gallo, cheddar cheese and a mini tostada. The ingredients are wrapped in a soft tortilla and grilled. Plus, the limited-time item — which is sold in orders of two — comes with green chile queso on the side.

DQ has 85-cent Blizzards in honor of its 85th anniversary from Monday, March 24, through Tuesday, April 6.

With a minimum purchase of $1, reward members can get the small-sized Blizzard discount. Any and all flavors are eligible for the deal, including the new lineup of summer Blizzards.

Starting on Monday, March 31, customers try newbies like the mixing bowl mashup Blizzard, which blends brownie batter and chocolate chip cookie dough with soft serve ice cream, and the dipped strawberry cheesecake Blizzard. This treat combines cheesecake pieces, chocolate chunks, strawberry topping and soft serve ice cream.

Fans will recognize the confetti cake Blizzard, a mix of cake pieces and sprinkles with vanilla soft serve, and cotton candy Blizzard, which adds cotton candy topping and cotton candy sprinkles to soft serve ice cream. Plus, the fan-voted s’mores Blizzard, which blends marshmallow-filled chocolate bars and graham crackers with vanilla soft serve, will also be available starting next week.
