Maya Hawke is incredibly close to her family, so much so that she broke away from her honeymoon to support them in the special way!
The Stranger Things actress – who got married to fellow singer Christian Lee Hutson on February 14 – appeared onstage with her husband on March 3 to perform at the 39th Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert.
The event was hosted by Tibet House’s co-founder, author and academic Bob Thurman, who is also Maya’s grandfather.
Family first
Bob – whose daughter is actress Uma Thurman – proudly told the audience that his “darling granddaughter” Maya had “broken away” from her honeymoon to be there, and praised her “beautiful voice”.
Maya is no stranger to performing at Tibet House events with Christian, but this marked their first as a married couple, making it all the more special.
A star-studded evening
Bob – a former Tibetan Buddhist monk – co-founded Tibet House with actor Richard Gere in 1987, to ensure the survival of the unique Tibetan civilization.
Classical composer Philip Glass – who is Vice President of Tibet House – curated the event along with Laurie Anderson. Other performers included Elvis Costello, Allison Russell and Robert De Niro.

When did Maya and Christian meet?
Maya and Christian were first romantically linked in 2023, and met while working on music together. Christian has contributed to Maya’s music, including her albums Moss and Chaos Angel. The couple made their red carpet debut on April 14, 2025 at the opening night of Broadway’s John Proctor Is the Villain, which starred Sadie Sink, Maya’s Stranger Things co-star.

Maya and Christian got married at St. George’s Episcopal on Stuyvesant Square in Manhattan on Valentine’s Day. Following the wedding ceremony, guests walked from the chapel to the reception at The Players, a private members club in Gramercy Park.
© Getty ImagesFor their special day, the actress and her musician husband were supported by Maya’s famous family, including her parents Uma and Ethan Hawke, as well as celebrity friends like her Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard, plus Iris Apatow with her boyfriend Sam Nivola, among others.
Photos of the special day saw Maya dressed in a statement satin sleeveless white gown with a boat neckline and a drop-waist adorned with a simple flat bow. Christian wore a classic black tuxedo.
