Vincent Pastore, best known for his role in HBO’s “The Sopranos” and for playing mobster characters in a slew of film and TV roles, has died, Page Six can confirm.
He was 80.
Sources told Page Six that Pastore was found dead Saturday in his Bonx residence by a neighbor.
Another source told us the actor died at home on City Island in the Bronx.
Pastore had not been heard from in three days prior to being discovered Saturday and circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, Deadline reported.
Pastore’s manager, Robert Attermann, mourned the actor’s death in a statement to Page Six Saturday.
“I had the privilege of representing Vinny for more than 30 years, long before ‘The Sopranos’ made him a household name,” Attermann said. “To the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable ‘Big Pussy,’ but to those of us who knew him, he was so much more.”
“Vinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known,” the statement continued. “He treated everyone with warmth and respect, never turning down a fan who wanted a photograph or an autograph.”
Attermann continued, writing that Pastore “genuinely appreciated the people who supported him and always made them feel valued. He loved being an actor. He was passionate about his craft and was always encouraging, respectful, and generous with young actors, taking the time to offer guidance and support whenever he could.”
Atterman wrote that losing Pastore is “deeply personal.”
“Over more than three decades, I had the honor of watching not only his remarkable career but also the incredible person he was,” he went on. “I will miss his friendship, his loyalty, his humor, and his heart.”
“My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless fans whose lives he touched,” he concluded. “He leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his memorable performances. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.”
Pastore — born in the Bronx back in 1946 — fought in the Vietnam war and scored a degree in drama at Pace University before embarking on a high profile career in acting.
He honed his skills as a mob personality in major movies including “Carlito’s Way” in 1993 and “Goodfellas” in 1990 before scoring a prominent role in HBO’s “Gotti” in 1996.
He’s also known for appearing in daytime TV’s “One Life to Live,” and guest starred on “Law & Order.” The prolific actor’s most recent on-screen appearance was in Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” in 2025.
Pastore, however, will undoubtedly always be best known for his unforgettable role in the landmark HBO mob series.
Still, he once pointed out that his actual background looked nothing like the unforgettable series.
“A lot of people think I grew up with those kinds of people,” he once told Edge magazine. “The truth is that I grew up in a pure Italian-American home. Tradition,” he continued.
“We lived in New Rochelle in an Italian neighborhood. I can still smell the pizza! Roller skating every Friday night at the Boys Club. Great memories. We saw bookies and loan sharks. But to play these roles you don’t rely on memories. You use your own personality and come up with a great character. And for the record, I never knew any rats.”
