Looking for a cosy crime drama to keep you glued to your sofa this weekend? The twisty murder mystery, Queens of Mystery, arrived on the streaming platform U this week, and all 12 episodes of the two-season drama are currently available to stream for free.
The series, starring Julie Graham (Shetland), Sarah Woodward (Professor T), and Siobhan Redmond (Two Doors Down), follows a young detective based in her idyllic hometown village of Wildemarsh, where her three crime-writing aunts, Cat, Beth and Jane, help her solve murders.
This charming crime drama, which boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 75 per cent, is perfect for fans of lighthearted, picturesque whodunnits like Father Brown, Agatha Raisin and Murder She Wrote. With plenty of intrigue, quirky characters and darkly comic cases, Queens of Mystery is guaranteed to be a thrilling watch.
What is Queens of Mystery about?
The series, created by writer Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks), follows 27-year-old Matilda Stone (Florence Hall), who has just been promoted to Detective Sergeant and is posted to the Marsh Valley Constabulary in her picturesque hometown of Wildemarsh.
Upon her arrival, she’s reunited with her crime-writing aunts Beth, Cat and Jane, who use their extensive knowledge of crime fiction to help Matilda solve murders in the town.
The series, which first aired on Acorn TV in 2019, is narrated by Riviera star Juliet Stevenson, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in 2019.
What have viewers said about the show?
The series has been hailed as a “wonderfully entertaining series” and “deliciously enticing fun.”
One person wrote in an online review: “Creative entertainment with lovable and interesting characters always finding their way into a mystery to solve. The mystery is entertaining, however the characters and their storyline are the heart of the series,” while another added: “Queens of Mystery is a dark, twisting murder [mystery] in a style reminiscent of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I was hooked after the first show and more invested with each episode. A fun must-watch!”
Meanwhile, the show has received positive reviews from critics, with The Times describing the drama as “a cosy colourful crowd-pleaser,” while Radio Times hailed the series as “brilliant, bold and thrilling.”
