Sherrone Moore Arraignment: Ex Michigan Coach Charged With Felony Home Invasion and More

The charges filed against former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore have been confirmed after he was arrested and fired from his position.

Moore was charged with felony home invasion and two misdemeanors on Friday, December 12, in Ann Arbor, Michigan’s 14A-1 District Court, according to court records.

The formal charges are one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering. A formal arraignment on the charges is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Moore, 39, was accused of “attacking” a woman at the address of a Michigan football employee on Wednesday, December 10, per a 911 dispatch obtained by TMZ Sports the following day. The woman claimed at the time that Moore had been “stalking her for months.”

Dispatch received the phone call at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities arrived at the scene at 4:10 p.m. “for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault” and subsequently took an individual into custody, according to the Pittsfield Police Department. The Detroit News later confirmed Moore was the person arrested. He was booked at the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m. and spent the night behind bars.

Shortly after the alleged incident, the University of Michigan released a statement at 4:34 p.m. on Wednesday announcing Moore’s firing.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement at the time. “Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

According to the Pittsfield Police Department, the alleged incident involving Moore “does not appear to be random in nature,” and there did not appear to be an “ongoing threat to the community.”

Meanwhile, an investigation into Moore is “ongoing.”

“Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details,” the authorities said. “Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as possible.”

Amid speculation about the charges against Moore, journalist John U. Bacon reported that the school conducted an investigation over the summer, at which time both Moore and the staff member denied “anything was happening between them.” However, the employee’s story “flipped” on the morning of Moore’s arrest.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter, for his part, claimed that a recent investigation into Moore found “no evidence of wrongdoing” despite weeks of “whispers and speculations about various gossipy, salacious items with the school.”

He continued: “But, if the school is going to take a step on Wednesday that it did, and announce that it is firing Sherrone Moore for cause, and saying he had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer, then, clearly, something this week developed that the school felt like it had irrefutable evidence and was left with no other choice.”

Moore became head coach of the Wolverines in January 2024. He had just completed his second season in the role when he was fired.

As for his personal life, Moore has been married to wife Kelli Moore since 2015. The pair share three daughters.

After Moore’s termination, Biff Poggi, an assistant on the staff at the University of Michigan, took over as interim head coach as the team prepared to play the University of Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
