The Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has provided a new update pertaining to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance since January 31.
Chris shared with Today: “We believe we know why he did this and we believe that it was targeted. We’re not 100 percent sure of that and so it would be silly to tell people ‘don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ No, you could be.”
NBC inquired about whether the Sheriff believes that the kidnapper could strike again, and without hesitation, Chris said: ” Well absolutely. Absolutely, I mean, criminal minds are criminal minds.”
Latest news on the case
Investigators are still on the hunt for finding the person behind the unknown DNA that was discovered at Nancy’s house.
The Sheriff remains optimistic about finding out who it could be, as he shared: “That’s gonna get us to somebody, we hope.”
Chris also noted a technical glitch that occurred during the time that Nancy was kidnapped.
He revealed: “There was a timeline when things went offline, so we’re looking into why did that occur. We’ve checked with our power companies. We’ve checked with other neighborhoods.”
The Sheriff confirmed that the offline issue is separate from the camera being disabled from Nancy’s house.
NBC also emphasized that the damaged utility box that was discovered nearby Nancy’s home is not connected to the technical enigma either.
The outlet also confirmed that the Sheriff and investigators already had a theory on Nancy’s disappearance since the first day they began investigating, however that theory has not been shared by the department. On top of that, the FBI has not commented on any motive for the kidnapping from their end.

Savannah has decided that she will return to the show, however, the specific date remains unknown.
Savannah’s support system
For the time being, Sheinelle Jones and Hoda Kotb have stepped in as standby hosts alongside Craig Melvin.
The Today show displayed one of Savannah’s videos pleading for the kidnapper to return her mother, in which the host said: “Bring her home. It’s never too late to do the next right thing.”
