Shay Mitchell is here to make sure you never commit a crime against your hair again.
The actress, 37, has partnered with OGX for their bold new campaign, stepping into the role of “The Fixer,” to investigate the toughest “hair crimes” — from heat damage to breakage from bleach — and presents the new Bond Protein Repair Collection as the solution to solve them.
“I loved being able to play ‘The Fixer’ because, honestly, I could’ve used a fixer in my life,” Mitchell tells PEOPLE. She is unfortunately no stranger to hair damage, whether she brings it upon herself or it’s caused by others.
“Sometimes you’re in a rush and your hair is still a little bit damp and you put the straightener on it and that’s not great. We’re all guilty of doing these things every now and then.”
The You actress continues, “Because of my schedule and playing roles and having to do photo shoots and different acting jobs, I’m getting different hairstyles all of the time. I have these incredible hairstylists, but they’re using really, really hot tools on my hair consistently.”
OGX’s new seven-piece collection serves as Mitchell’s solution to hair protection these days. “My schedule is always changing as everybody’s is, right? That’s life,” Mitchell says. “I would say how you rely on products that deliver fast results is what’s important. And I think for me, I have my steps knowing that I can use the shampoo, the conditioner and be good.”
Along with a protein repair lightweight shampoo and conditioner, the new line includes pre-shampoo treatment, a 1-minute treatment mask, 450°F heat protectant spray, sealing serum and 3-in-1 oil mist. Each product targets specific types of damage caused by everyday stress, heat and bleaching to leave your hair healthier and more resilient.
“The heat protectant spray is incredible because these tools can get really hot, but this actually protects your hair up to 450 degrees, which is insane. I always bring it with me in my set bag if they don’t have it. So when I spray it, after that I’m like, ‘Okay, good,'” Mitchell says of taking her hair’s health into her own hands.
“I need to know that these products do what they do and trust me, I’ve tried and tested a lot of different products. I feel confident now that you can give me any hairstyle and I’m not worried about my hair.”
For Mitchell, hair care is now a form of self-care. “I feel like I’m taking care of my body. You have to do it from the inside out [but] if I feel good and confident with how I look on the outside, that also helps. I can’t lie,” the Pretty Little Liars actress says. “If I know that I’m taking care of things and using the right products, I definitely feel a lot better.”
Though she has cracked the case on hair care, Mitchell says her role as “The Fixer” isn’t ending anytime soon — especially as a mom to two daughters, Atlas, 5, and Rome, 2. “I’m going to continue to be a fixer in my life as a mother for my girls in the future,” she says. “Someday, I’ll be fixing their hair with all of my OGX products.”
