Maybe don’t walk behind Steve Jones.
In a new interview with The Guardian, the Sex Pistols guitarist opened up about an unconventional activity that brings him joy: passing gas around innocent bystanders.
“I like to fart in front of people,” said Jones, 69. “You can tell if someone’s cool or not from their reaction.”
He’s even broken wind in a celebrity’s close vicinity. “I farted in front of Lisa Marie Presley once,” recalled the “God Save the Queen” musician. “She was sitting outside Starbucks and I was going in, and I just let one rip.”
Jones added that Presley, who died at age 54 in January 2023, “had this look on her face of disgust” at the time. “I just carried on walking into Starbucks,” he detailed. “Is that bad?”
Elsewhere in the interview, the rocker recalled running into Cliff Richard during his time hosting a radio show. “I said do you want to come on the show, have a larf? And he said okay,” said Jones.
“He came down, brought his guitars, and I couldn’t get him to shut up. He went through all the old classic songs. He’s such a pro. They don’t make ’em like him any more,” continued the musician.
After Richard, 84, left the meeting, Jones said, “I had his number, and funnily enough he called me on my landline when we got accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 2006.
“He left a message and he just started singing, “Congratulations! And jubilations!” It was the funniest thing ever,” continued Jones.
Earlier this week, the Sex Pistols announced their first North American tour since 2003 with a lineup of original members Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, plus vocalist Frank Carter.
Kicking off Sept. 16 in Dallas, the four-piece will perform the Sex Pistols’ 1977 album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols in its entirety on the tour, which wraps Oct. 16 in Los Angeles.
In February, original Sex Pistols lead singer, John Lydon (better known as Johnny Rotten) said he was “annoyed” upon learning about Carter’s inclusion in the band’s new touring lineup.
“I just thought, ‘They’re absolutely going to kill all that was good with the Pistols by eliminating the point and the purpose of it all.’ I didn’t write those words lightly,” he told iNews.
