Warning: Scream spoilers ahead!

Scream 7 has a killer cast full of franchise veterans and newcomers alike.

The seventh installment of the beloved horror franchise will be released in theaters on Feb. 27, 2026, and will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the script for the original 1996 film. The project will include the highly-anticipated return of many familiar faces, including Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley and Neve Campbell, the latter of whom starred in the original 1996 Scream and all of its sequels except for Scream 6, due to a pay dispute.

Reflecting on her return, she told PEOPLE in June 2024 that she was “really grateful” to have been asked to come back “in a respectful way.”

“Those movies have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it,” Campbell said. “I’m grateful to be able to step in into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story.”

While Scream 7 marks the return of many fan favorites, the project also lost a few key characters during pre-production.

Melissa Barrera was originally set to reprise her role as Sam Carpenter from 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream 6, until it was announced in November 2023 that she was removed from the cast due to her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war, per The Hollywood Reporter.

One day later, Deadline reported that her on-screen sister, Jenna Ortega, would also not return as Tara Carpenter, citing scheduling conflicts with other projects.

Here’s everything to know about the cast of Scream 7.

Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott

Neve Campbell is returning to the Scream universe and reprising her role as the film’s original protagonist, Sidney Prescott.

In a March 2024 Instagram post, the actress expressed her excitement to step back into the role, writing, “Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!”

“It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” she wrote. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned.”

The actress also shared that she has “dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening.”

As for her personal life, Campbell shares two children — Caspian and Raynor — with her partner JJ Feild.

Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers

After starring in all six of Scream’s installments, Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers, a journalist-turned-author who has had to face Ghostface’s killings on multiple occasions.

In September 2024, before her return was official, the Friends alum told Variety that she was “excited” that Scream 7 would be directed by Williamson.

“You can’t get better than that choice,” Cox said. “It’s going to be fun.”

Away from the franchise, Cox has been in a relationship with her partner Johnny McDaid since 2013. She also has a daughter, Coco, who she shares with her ex-husband and former Scream costar David Arquette.

Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin

Mason Gooding will reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin, a Ghostface survivor who first entered the franchise in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream 6.

During a January 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gooding reflected on his upcoming on-screen reunion with Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays his character’s twin Mindy, calling her his “sister.”

“I check in with her all the time,” he said. “I feel like being able to step into a character that has been inundated with so much love, on set and in general, has allowed Jasmin and I to fall into a rhetoric that’s super comfortable for us, whether it’s like talking on a scene or the decisions made.”

He also shared his enthusiasm for Campbell’s return, calling her the “godmother of the genre.”

Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin

Jasmine Savoy Brown will step back into her role as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Chad’s twin sister and fellow Ghostface survivor who appeared in the fifth and sixth installments of the Scream franchise.

In addition to her acclaimed role in Scream, Savoy Brown is also known for starring in Showtime’s thriller Yellowjackets.

Matthew Lillard

Matthew Lillard, who played villain Stu Macher in the franchise’s first installment, is making a highly-anticipated return to the Scream universe. Although he portayed the original co-Ghostface in the 1996 film, he made cameos in the second and fifth installment in 1997 and 2022, respectively, once as a partygoer and later in a voiceover role.

The announcement of Lillard’s return came on Jan. 30, accompanied by an Instagram video he posted, featuring a hand writing one of Stu’s iconic quotes from the original 1996 film: “My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!!”

In real life, the actor shares three children with his wife Heather Helm.

Scott Foley

More than two decades after appearing in the third installment, Scott Foley is returning to the Scream universe. While details regarding his character have not been announced, the actor previously played Sidney Prescott’s half-brother Roman Bridger — who was revealed to be the Ghostface killer in Scream 3.

Off-screen, Foley is married to actress Marika Domińczyk, with whom he shares three children: daughter Malina, and sons Keller and Konrad.

Joel McHale as Mark Evans

Newcomer Joel McHale joins the cast as Mark Evans, Sidney Prescott’s spouse.

Following the news of his casting in January 2025, McHale wrote on Instagram that he was “just thrilled […] to be a part of the Scream franchise.”

Although he’ll be playing Prescott’s on-screen husband, in real life, he is married to Sarah Williams McHale. Together, they share two sons: Eddie and Isaac.

Mark Consuelos

Mark Consuelos is making his Scream debut, though his character has yet to be announced.

Consuelos has three children with his wife Kelly Ripa, who has been desperate to learn more about his character’s fate.

While co-hosting their morning talk show Live with Kelly and Mark in January 2025, Ripa shared the casting announcement and joked, “Is that what you’ve been doing behind my back?”

“Yes! I had the most amazing time; we were up there in Atlanta,” Consuelos replied.

Ripa then inquired for plot details, asking, “What can you tell us? Are you the killer? … Do you die?”

“I can’t tell you anything. Don’t try to get it out of me. But it’s fun,” he said.

Isabel May as Sidney Prescott’s Daughter

Newcomer Isabel May will join the cast as Sidney Prescott’s daughter.

The actress first made waves in Netflix’s Alexa & Katie and gained further recognition for her role as Elsa Dutton in Yellowstone‘s prequel series 1883 and 1923.

She also had a recurring role in the CBS series Young Sheldon and appeared in 2022’s I Want You Back.

Celeste O’Connor

Celeste O’Connor is another newcomer entering the Scream universe, though her character details have been kept under wraps.

In December 2024, she shared the news on Instagram, writing, “New scream queen unlocked😱🔓👻 letsgooooooo.”

The actress added, “I’m so grateful to start 2025 doing what i love!!!!”

O’Connor is most known for her roles in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, as well as 2024’s Madame Web, in which she starred alongside Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney.

Asa Germann

Although his role has yet to be disclosed, Asa Germann’s casting announcement marks another new addition to the Scream universe.

The actor shared his casting announcement on Instagram in December 2024, writing, “So excited 🥹.”

Prior to joining the franchise, Germann appeared in TV series The Boys and Gen V.

Mckenna Grace

Among the newcomers is Mckenna Grace, whose role has also been kept under wraps.

In December 2024, the actress shared her excitement for the project on Instagram, writing, “Scream has been a default go to movie for as long as I can remember, when I was sick, sad, bored, my pick for movie night… now I’m quite unsuccessfully trying to play it cool while joining the cast of one of my all time favorite horror franchises.”

Scream 7 will mark a reunion between Grace and O’Connor after both appearing in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2024’s Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire. Additionally, Grace starred in 2017’s Gifted and had a role in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she earned an Emmy Award nomination.

Grace is also set to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You, in which she will star alongside Dave Franco and Allison Williams.

Sam Rechner

Newcomer Sam Rechner will join the Scream 7 cast, though his character has not yet been announced.

The actor is most recognized for his roles in 2022’s The Fabelmans and Netflix series Heartbreak High. Rechner also won GQ Australia‘s Breakthrough Actor of the Year in 2023.

Camp is most known for her parts in 2011’s The Help and all three of the Pitch Perfect movies, as well as HBO’s True Blood.
