The future of Savannah Guthrie’s career has not crossed her mind as the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues in Arizona.
Despite recent reports, Savannah returning to work at the Today show “is the furthest from anyone’s mind right now,” an insider tells Us Weekly exclusively.
“Savannah is focused on her mother, with the full support of NBC,” the source adds.
Savannah, 54, stepped back from her job and traveled to be with her family in Arizona just after news broke that Nancy, 84, went missing on February 1.
Nancy was last seen at her home in Tucson on January 31 after being dropped off by family members just before 10 p.m. She was reported missing the following day after not attending a virtual church service. Authorities believe that Nancy was taken from her home in the early hours of February 1. The search for Nancy continues with 400 law enforcement agents involved in the case, which had been ongoing for nearly three weeks.
Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron Guthrie, have spoken out pleading with the public for information regarding their mother’s disappearance.
“We believe our mom is still out there,” Savannah said in a video shared via Instagram on February 9. “We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock, trying to bring her home, trying to find her.”
She added, “She was taken, and we don’t know where, and we need your help. So, I’m coming on just to ask you, not just for your prayers, but no matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tucson, if you see anything, you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement.”
While no official suspect has been named publicly, the FBI released footage taken outside of Nancy’s house that shows who they believe is the assailant. Photos and video showed the person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos pointed to the alleged suspect wearing a ring underneath a pair of black gloves as a new clue earlier this week.
“I look at the same photo you look at and I get — I see it,” Nanos told NBC News on Tuesday, February 17. “I’m going to give that to my team. They’ll look at that. They’ll analyze it and we’ll see. Maybe, maybe it is.”
He also pointed to a gun holder on the person’s belt and the backpack they were wearing.
“We know he had a gun. We know he had a holster that had some pretty unique characteristics,” Nanos said. “We can’t quite identify it yet, but that’s being worked on.
Nanos also confirmed that Nancy’s apparent kidnapping was targeted.
“I think this was an individual who had a target for whatever reason, and he has made it tough, but I’ve got some pretty tough investigators too,” he said on the Today show during the Wednesday, February 18, broadcast. “As long as we have the ability to chase a lead, it’s not cold. We’re not going to give up. We’re going to find Nancy, and we’re going to find out who did this.”
