Sarah Snook is getting ready to step back into The Picture of Dorian Gray‘s many roles, and PEOPLE has first look at her in action.
The Emmy-winning Succession actress, 37, will make her Broadway debut in the play, which begins previews on March 10 ahead of an opening on March 27 at the Music Box Theatre in New York City. It’s currently set for a “strictly limited” 14-week engagement.
Photographer Rebecca J Michelson was in the room when rehearsals for the production kicked off on Monday, Feb. 17. The shutterbug snapped pictures of Snook as she spoke with the creatives behind the play, including director Kip Williams.
PEOPLE can premiere the images exclusively.
Other members of the creative team include Marg Horwell (set and costume design) Nick Schlieper (lighting design), Clemence Williams (composition and sound design), David Bergman (video design) and Eryn Jean Norvill (dramaturg and Cceative associate).
The Picture of Dorian Gray tells the story of a young man who trades his soul for eternal youth. Snook will play a whopping 26 characters in the production, including the title character.
Williams is not just directing the show but also adapted Oscar Wilde’s 1890 novel for the stage. The play has been described by producers in an official release as Wilde’s “interpretation of beauty, excess, and a deal with the devil brings a striking resonance in our current era, holding a mirror to 21st century society’s narcissistic obsession with youth.”
This production, like the celebrated revival of Sunset Blvd. currently on the boards, employs “an explosive interplay of video and theater through an intricately choreographed collection of on-stage cameras.”
Audiences first saw Snook in the The Picture of Dorian Gray when it premiered at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London to a sold-out run. She would wind up winning a best actress in a play trophy at the 2024 Olivier Awards for her work, one of two the production took home that night (the other was for Horwell’s costume design).
Developed by the Sydney Theatre Company, the production premiered in Australia back in 2020, extending twice in Sydney before touring the content to critical and audience acclaim.

When its Broadway transfer was announced back in October 2024, Snook opened up about her positive experience with the project.
“It was a singular privilege to bring The Picture of Dorian Gray to life in London and I am thrilled we will be able to share this astonishing production with audiences in New York,” she said. “From Oscar Wilde’s timeless words to the masterful reinterpretation Kip Williams has created, this tale of virtue, corruption, vanity and repercussion is an electrifying journey for me as much as for the audiences and I am filled with anticipation as we continue on this ambitious creative endeavor.”
While most famous for her turn as Shiv in Succession, HBO’s award-winning family drama, Snook has previously taken the stage with various productions in Australia as well as London, where she starred alongside Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder at the Old Vic Theatre.
Other on-screen credits include Run Rabbit Run and The Beanie Bubble. Later this year, she’ll make her return to TV in Peacock’s limited series adaptation of the Andrea Mara novel, All Her Fault, opposite Dakota Fanning, Michael Peña, Jay Ellis and Jake Lacy.
Meanwhile, it will be a Succession reunion on Broadway for Snook this season. Also on the boards? Her former costar Kieran Culkin, who will lead the starry revival of Glengarry Glen Ross.
Tickets for The Picture of Dorian Gray are now on sale.
