Sarah Shahi felt sparks with her boyfriend Adam Demos both on and off camera.

While reflecting on the loyal fan base she’s developed after Sex/Life, the actress, 45, opened up about the ways the hit Netflix show changed her life for the better — despite taking on the project during a challenging time in her life.

“With Sex/Life, the stars aligned in the right way for me to play Billie at that time,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Personally, my life was falling apart; I had gotten a divorce. Once the show came out, I became the poster child for unhappily married women and the response was huge.”

Her new image wasn’t “anything I could have ever pictured or even sought after,” but Shahi said it was a title that became an empowering blessing in disguise.

“The crowd has followed me. Women are still so interested in topics like, how do you have the guts to start over? How do you have the courage to leave, to get a divorce, while having children? The response was so big that I got a book deal,” she continued, adding how her she explores these topics in her book, Life is Lifey.

In terms of a reboot, Shahi said she’d “love” to revisit the series and her character Billie.

“Especially with the way season 2 ended where, in a way, they’re at the very beginning of the Brad and Billie story,” she added, referencing her and Demos’ characters. “So if anyone is out there listening and would love to take a stab at that, I would be more than willing.”

After finding love with Demos on Sex/Life, Shahi said she and her boyfriend have been looking at other projects to work on together.

“Nothing has felt right so far, but what’s great about that is that we met as actors. So we have a really great working relationship with each other; obviously, we have great chemistry,” she explained. “And because we are in a relationship, it’s impossible to lie. I can’t look at him and fake a line. He can’t look at me and do the same.”

Shahi added, “There’s no tolerance for any sort of bulls—. So I think we do work well with each other, and I would love to find something that he and I could do together.”

Sex/Life, inspired by B.B. Easton’s book 44 Chapters About 4 Men, premiered on Netflix in 2021. The series followed “a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her past that takes a provocative new look at female identity and desire,” per a description from the streamer.

Shortly after the series premiered its second season in 2023, the streamer cancelled the series.
