Dressing up as Taylor Swift never goes out of style!
Actress Sarah Drew told PEOPLE at Variety‘s Power of Women Event in Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 24, that she and her daughter Hannah, 9, will be channeling the pop star this year for Halloween.
“She’s going to be Taylor Swift and I’m going to be Taylor Swift superfan,” Drew, 44, said.
The Grey’s Anatomy alum also has a costume planned with her son Micah, 12, who she called “a genius.”
“He’s a really amazing filmmaker and every year he comes up with a persona he wants to be in, but it’s not a specific character,” Drew explained. “This year, he wants to be a ranger character from the game Dungeons and Dragons. He has been building his own costume; he’s sewing this cloak. I’m also going to be a ranger, which kind of looks like a warrior elf, and she’s pretty bad ass.”
Drew said that, for her costume, she plans to buy “bits and pieces from Amazon and pull it together.”
“I’m really excited about it,” she continued. “We turn into little costume designers. We go all out.”

While Drew enjoys the holiday prep with her kids, she admitted that being a working mom comes with its challenges.
“The balance is crazy,” she said ahead of the Variety event, which was held in partnership with Lifetime and gathered a group of philanthropic women in media and entertainment to recognize their influence. “I was gone for 10 weeks this summer shooting a show that I’m starring in and executive producing, and that was really hard to leave the kids. But I have a very clear message when I speak to them about it, and it’s: ‘I don’t love being away from you. I miss you when I’m away from you, but I love what I do so much. And I feel like I’m living into my purpose when I get to go and do those things.’”
The mom of two explained that she tries to never be sad when leaving her kids for a work project. “If that was my attitude, then they’d be like, ‘Well, then why do it?’” Drew said. “I work really hard to tell them how both how much beauty there is and purpose and mission in doing this great work.”
Drew stars next in Mistletoe Murders, a six-episode Hallmark+ series based on an Audible podcast by the same name. She plays Emily, the owner of a Christmas-themed store in a small town who finds herself involved with solving local murders with the help of an attractive local police detective and his teen daughter. Despite Emily’s seemingly picturesque life, she harbors a secret past that could fall apart as the investigations move forward.
