Salma Hayek’s tender moment with newborn baby sparks joy after family reveals double surprise

Salma Hayek is embracing an exciting new chapter in her family life. The 59-year-old actress looked completely smitten with the newest member of the Pinault family in a heartwarming video shared on Instagram, just days after it was revealed that she had become a grandmother for the first time.

In the sweet clip, Salma could be seen tenderly cradling her stepson François Pinault Jr.’s newborn baby boy, François, as she gazed lovingly at the tiny arrival.

The Frida star looked effortlessly chic for the family moment, wearing her brunette hair swept into a relaxed updo as she held the baby close. “We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois’. Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more,” she captioned the post. 

It was a particularly touching glimpse into Salma’s close-knit blended family and comes after François Jr. and his partner, Countess Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck, surprised fans by revealing they had quietly welcomed their first child.

The couple kept both the pregnancy and birth largely out of the public eye, enjoying their first weeks as parents privately before Lara finally introduced their son on Instagram. Reports indicate baby François was born in July.

Salma Hayek becomes a grandmother

Lara announced the happy news with a collection of intimate family photographs, writing: “My husband (the world’s coolest François) and our son (the world’s cutest François)…our first month as parents.”

The reference to François as her “husband” also appeared to reveal another major family secret, as the couple had previously only publicly announced their engagement. Lara has since changed her name on social media to Lara Cosima Pinault.

Among the photographs was an adorable image of Salma cuddling the newborn while his proud father looked on.

Other pictures offered a glimpse inside the couple’s first month of parenthood, from quiet moments at home to François taking on feeding and diaper duties.

The newborn is certainly continuing a family tradition when it comes to his name. François is shared across four generations of the Pinault dynasty, including his father, grandfather François-Henri Pinault and great-grandfather François Pinault.

The arrival is particularly poignant given how openly Salma has spoken about the importance of her blended family.

The actress married François-Henri in Paris in 2009, two years after welcoming their daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, who is now 18.

François-Henri also has three children from previous relationships. He shares François Jr. and Mathilde with his former wife, French designer Dorothée Lepère, while his son Augustin James was born during his relationship with supermodel Linda Evangelista.

Salma has never made a distinction when speaking about the children in her family. “I always wanted to have a lot of children, and I was not able to,” she previously told Red. “My body, as a miracle, had one.”

“The huge blessing I’ve had is that my husband has three other children. So I have four. And they are all so different.”
