Ryan Gosling is more than just Ken. He might also be a Jedi.

The Barbie star is reportedly in negotiations to star in the untitled Star Wars movie that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy will direct. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Levy, 56, has been working on the Star Wars movie for over two years and is writing with Jonathan Tropper, who joined the project in July 2024. The two previously worked on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. Levy will produce through his 21 Laps banner alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

It is still unclear what Levy’s film will be about, but sources told The Hollywood Reporter it will be a standalone movie. PEOPLE has reached out to Disney for comment.

Gosling’s sudden interest in the project could reportedly change Levy’s schedule. He was considering making a boy band movie starring the Deadpool & Wolverine duo Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Star Wars movie could take precedence if Gosling, 44, officially signs on.

The next Star Wars movie is set to be The Mandalorian and Grogu, which finished principal photography in December and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Although several other Star Wars movies have been announced in recent years, the last one to make it to the finish line was 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

The actor is no stranger to the sci-fi genre, having starred in Blade Runner 2049 opposite Harrison Ford, who famously played Han Solo in multiple Star Wars films.

Gosling was last seen on the big screen in The Fall Guy. He has Oscar nominations for his performances in Half Nelson, La La Land and Barbie. His next movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Project Hail Mary, opens in March 2026.

In May 2024, Gosling told WSJ. Magazine that being a father to his two daughters he shares with partner Eva Mendes has influenced his decision to stay away from “dark” roles. Gosling and Mendes are parents to Esmeralda Amada, 10, and Amada Lee, 8.

“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” Gosling told the magazine. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first.”
