Some of the film industry’s most beloved actresses faced off in the hopes of taking home one of the most coveted awards at the 2026 Golden Globes.
Rose Byrne ultimately won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You during the Sunday, January 11, awards show at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
“Of course i didn’t prepare anything but I didn’t sing in this movie guys,” Bryne, 46, joked about being in the “musical or comedy” category. “Thank you so much. This is such a shock. Thank you so much.”
Byrne went on to thank writer/director Mary Bronstein and her brother George for being her date, as well as her parents who “bought Paramount+” so they could watch her from Sydney, Australia. She then gave a shoutout to husband Bobby Cannavale and revealed why he had to skip the big event.
“I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, he couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went a reptile expo in New Jersey. Thank you baby!”
The remaining contenders in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category included Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked: For Good, Emma Stone for Bugonia and Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue.
Of the six nominees in the category, three were already Golden Globe winners before Sunday’s event. Stone, 37, previously won for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for La La Land in 2017 and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Poor Things in 2024. Meanwhile, Seyfried, 40, earned Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for The Dropout in 2023, and Hudson, 46, took home the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Almost Famous in 2001.
Seyfried is a four-time Golden Globe nominee, receiving two nods this year alone. In addition to her nomination for The Testament of Ann Lee, she was also up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for Long Bright River.
Stone, meanwhile, has nine total Golden Globe nominations, while Hudson has three.
For her part, Erivo, 39, has received five Golden Globe nods over the years, including for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Original Song – Motion Picture for Harriet in 2020, Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for Genius: Aretha in 2022 and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Wicked in 2025.
Byrne, 46, is a three-time Golden Globe nominee, previously earning nods for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Damages in 2008 and 2010.
As for Infiniti, 25, she landed her first Golden Globe nomination this year.
