Rob Reiner will be honored at the 2026 Oscars with a “powerful” tribute following the deaths of him and his wife, Michele, on December 14, 2025.

The famed director behind When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, and The Princess Bride will be remembered during the ceremony on Sunday, March 15, in Hollywood.

The 98th Academy Awards host, Conan O’Brien, revealed to Extra that while the tribute is “hard to sum up,” it will “be a very powerful part of the show.”

He shared no other details, but during a press conference on Wednesday, Oscars producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan said that this year’s “in memoriam” segment will be longer than usual.

“I guess we can’t really go into detail of what it’s gonna be this year, but we really hope that it is a tribute that moves people and feels like it does the incredible people we’ve lost this year justice,” Katy explained.

Rob, 78, and his producer wife, 70, died due to “multiple sharp force injuries” caused “with a knife, by another,” on December 14, 2025, their death certificates revealed.

The couple attended Conan’s annual Christmas party with their son, Nick, 32, and reportedly had a heated argument with him just hours before they were murdered. He was arrested the following day and has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with special circumstances, including the use of a knife.

Nick, who was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia in the weeks before his parents’ murders, has remained in custody without bail since his arrest, and at an arraignment at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on February 23, he pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

He is next due in court on April 29, and if convicted, Nick faces “a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman told reporters. “No decision, at this point, has been made with respect to the death penalty.”

Following the arraignment, we spoke with former Los Angeles County deputy district attorney, now criminal defense attorney RJ Dreiling, of Dreiling Law APC, about the case moving forward to trial.

“In any criminal case, unless there is a settlement, the prosecutor must take the case to trial,” Dreiling told HELLO!

“In this case, the prosecutor would be using witnesses from Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party to establish the motive against Reiner’s parents, and then use a combination of forensic evidence, including DNA, and witness testimony to tie Nick Reiner to the scene of the murders.”

He added: “The brutal nature of the allegations – murdering the two people who loved and cared for you the most – is going to be an uphill battle for the defense.

“On the other hand, many jurors are going to have a tough time believing that anyone in their right mind would do something like that, which is going to be the challenge for the prosecution.”
