Rob Reiner’s family has always been synonymous with showbiz.
The Princess Bride director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home on Sunday, December 14. Rob leaves behind four children.
Rob, who was 78, won two Emmy Awards for his role as Mike “Meathead” Stivic in the classic sitcom All in the Family before gaining notoriety as a filmmaker. In the span of just six years, he released acclaimed movies Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
But talent has always run in the Reiner family; his parents were actors Estelle and Carl Reiner, his wife was a producer, and his daughter Tracy was also an actress.

Carl and Estelle Reiner
Rob’s dad was the famous comedian Carl Reiner, who won 11 Emmy Awards in his lifetime. His mom, Estelle, was an actress and singer, who delivered the famous “I’ll have what she’s having” line in When Harry Met Sally…’s iconic deli scene.
Carl and Estelle were married for nearly 65 years until Estelle’s death at age 98 in October 2008. Carl died at age 98 in June 2020.
Annie and Lucas Reiner
Rob had two siblings, Annie and Lucas, both of whom are accomplished artists in their own right.
Annie, 76, is a playwright, author, poet and singer.
Lucas, 65, is a painter, photographer and filmmaker.
Penny Marshall
Before marrying Michele, Rob was married to actress and director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. He adopted Penny’s daughter, Tracy, from a previous relationship.
Penny was best known for playing Laverne DeFazio in the classic sitcom Laverne & Shirley. She also directed several films, including Big, A League of Their Own and Riding in Cars With Boys.
Penny died at age 75 in December 2018.
Michele Singer Reiner
Following his divorce from Penny, Rob met actress and photographer Michele while directing When Harry Met Sally. They wed in 1989, the same year the movie came out.
In an interview with The A.V. Club in 2016, Rob said he changed the ending of the classic romantic comedy after meeting his wife. (Initially, Harry and Sally were meant to walk away from each other, but in the final cut, they get married.)
Michele later coproduced several of her husband’s movies, including Shock and Awe, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life and the recently released Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
Together, Rob and Michele share three children: sons Jake and Nick and daughter Romy.
Tracy Reiner
Rob’s adopted daughter, Tracy, was born to Penny Marshall and Michael Henry in 1968. After Rob and Penny got together, Rob raised Tracy.
Like her parents, Tracy went into acting, appearing in Jumpin’ Jack Flash and A League of Their Own, both directed by her mom, When Harry Met Sally…, directed by Rob, and Die Hard and Apollo 13.
Jake Reiner
Rob and Michele’s eldest son, Jake, followed in his father’s footsteps as an actor. He has appeared in movies such as Love and Taxes, Things Like This and the recent adaptation of War of the Worlds.
Jake is also a sports podcaster, who hosts “The Incline: Dodgers Podcast.”
Nick Reiner
Screenwriter Nick, 32, collaborated with his father on the 2015 film, Being Charlie, directed by Rob and cowritten by Nick. The film is based on Nick’s experiences with heroin addiction and homelessness. (He wrote the script with fellow ex-addict Matt Elisofon.)
“It was very, very hard going through it the first time, with these painful and difficult highs and lows. And then making the movie dredged it all up again,” Rob told the Los Angeles Times in 2015.
In the interview, the father and son duo detailed Nick’s struggles in treatment.
“The program works for some people, but it can’t work for everybody,” Rob said at the time. “When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”
Nick said of his addiction, “I got sick of it. I got sick of doing that … I come from a nice family, I’m not supposed to be out there on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all these… things.”
Following Rob and Michele’s deaths, Us Weekly confirmed that Nick was arrested and charged on suspicion of murder. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman later announced on December 16, 2025, that Nick would officially be charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Nick was seen in court for the first time the following day, wearing a suicide prevention vest, but he did not enter a plea. His arraignment was continued until January 7, his attorney, Alan Jackson, confirmed.
Romy Reiner
Romy is an actress and director, much like other members of her family. She appeared in the 2023 Netflix comedy You People and directed and wrote the short film Here to Stay.
Romy is also active on social media, often sharing cute videos with her dad, including an Instagram video in April in which they discussed “hotness.”
Romy, who reportedly discovered Rob’s body after his death, broke her silence on the tragedy alongside Jake in a statement on December 17, 2025.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” the siblings told TMZ. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
The statement continued, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”
