Though it feels like it has flown by in an instant, more than a decade has passed since Richard Gere and his now-wife Alejandra Gere first began their love story. In fact, they’re approaching their eighth wedding anniversary – the couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony in April 2018, followed by a family celebration the following month at their New York ranch, as covered exclusively by HELLO!.

Their first child together, Alexander, was born in February 2019, followed by the youngest of the family, James, in April 2020, at the height of the pandemic. Time moves quickly, and nowhere is that more evident than in how much the little ones have grown – a sentiment Alejandra reflected on as she shared new family photos and an emotional message with her followers.

The Spanish businesswoman shared some idyllic snaps of her family

A glimpse into the family album

Alejandra – who is also mother to 13-year-old Albert from her previous marriage to businessman Govind Friedland – opened up her family album to share a series of photos and videos. The collection shows the children strolling along a pier at sunset, dolphin-watching from a boat and relaxing on the beach with a fun picnic. In one particularly sweet clip, the family are seen watching a film while tucked up on the sand. These snapshots appear to be from a recent family getaway, where they took advantage of the school spring break to switch off for a few days on the Pacific coast.

Clearly struck by how quickly Albert, Alexander, seven, and five-year-old James are growing up, the Spanish businesswoman confessed to a wish many parents share: for the days to move just a little bit slower. “Sometimes I wish time would stop
That they would stay little, looking at the world with that pure curiosity, discovering every corner of nature as if it were the first time,” she wrote. “Sometimes I wish I would never have to let go of their hand.” She illustrated this beautifully with a photo of herself walking hand-in-hand with one of her sons.

However, the Hollywood star’s wife is well aware that the passing of time is inevitable, and that supporting her children as they find their own way is all part of the journey.

“Life is also about learning to guide them as they grow, observing how they open up to the world
and trusting in all the beautiful things within them,” she shared. She concluded with a valuable lesson on the importance of making the most of every “quality time” moment: “You understand that it’s not about stopping time, but about living every instant with them as if it were eternal.”

Alejandra is already seeing this new chapter unfold with her eldest son. Albert turned 13 in December, and his mother marked the occasion with a lighthearted post wondering if she was truly ready for the stage many parents dread: the teenage years. “Welcome to your teen years. Brace yourself and brace me too!” she joked.

After settling in Madrid for a bit, the Geres recently moved back to New York City

A move to Spain – and then back to the States

After a stint in Spain – the family settled in Madrid in 2024 after several years in the States – the couple decided a few months ago to move back across the Atlantic.

“It’s been great,” the actor told HELLO! as they closed that particular chapter. “Ale was so happy to be with her family, her friends, and her culture. And the food – all those wonderful things about Spanish culture,” he said.

While they are currently enjoying a quiet, happy family life in the US, they haven’t ruled out a return to Alejandra’s home country. “I wouldn’t rule it out at all,” Alejandra recently told HELLO!’s sister brand ¡HOLA!, describing Spain as “a place we will always come back to.” Emphasising that she is currently in a very fulfilling stage of life, she made her priorities clear: “Right now, we are very focused on the children and supporting them where they need it most, but Spain will always be in our plans.”
