Gina Kirschenheiter revealed her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, suffered a heart attack at age 40.
The “Real Housewives of Orange County” star took to Instagram to post photos of their daughter, Sienna, hugging Matt in his hospital bed while their two sons, Nicholas and Luca, hung out in a waiting room.
“Wow. We had a scary weekend! Matt (the kiddos dad) suffered a heart attack Saturday! He’s only 40 years old!!” Gina, also 40, wrote Monday night.
She thanked Matt’s second wife, Britt Kirschenheiter, for “rush[ing] him to the hospital” as soon as she noticed symptoms.
“The kids were very shaken up but thankfully we can be smiling bc he will be okay!” Gina wrote. “He came home today.”
The Bravolebrity gushed that she and her boyfriend, Travis Mullen, are “so happy” Matt is back home and healthy.
“This was too close of a call,” she added. “Really puts things in perspective. ❤️. We will all be changing our lifestyle and leaning into the healthy bc being there for our kids is the only thing that matters. ❤️.”
Gina ended her post by thanking those who “checked in” on her and reminded others who are “struggling to coparent” that “what matters most is that you all get to be there for your kids.”
“Tomorrow is not promised, today is a gift ❤️,” she wrote.
Several fans and fellow reality stars flocked to the comments section to share their best wishes for Gina and her former husband.
“Oh no! So glad he is going to be ok,” former “RHOC” star Vicki Gunvalson wrote, while cast member Shannon Beador added three praying hands emojis.
“Omg 😱 Gina! How scary. Thank God he is ok 🙏🏻,” added Gretchen Rossi, who will return to “RHOC” as a “friend” in Season 19 after exiting the show in 2013.
“Sending you guys big hugs! So happy to hear he is ok. I can’t imagine how scary.🙏🏻,” current star Jennifer Pedranti commented.
Matt’s wife, Britt, also chimed in, “I think we’re all forever shook 🙏 ❤️.”
Gina and Matt were college sweethearts who tied the knot in 2010. They separated in 2018, but their divorce became more complicated when he was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence in 2019.
Matt eventually pleaded guilty to the charges after Gina shared a victim’s impact statement in 2020. The exes finalized their divorce shortly after and have continued to co-parent their three children.
