Reese Witherspoon, you may never see this but, just in case – You’re Cordially Invited to make over my entire closet.
I know this isn’t something she’d volunteer to do, but I’ve seen her embrace various fashion trends, and a coordinating set is my favorite right now. In a short Instagram video, the actress danced alongside her You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell (the movie drops on January 30!) in a black turtleneck and patterned skirt.
Then in a separate Instagram story, I also noticed that she had on what appeared to be a coordinating patterned coat, so her skirt and topper were likely part of a matching set. To finalize the look, she added some tall black boots, a winter staple in my opinion.
I was already digging the fuss-free combination at this point, but Taylor Swift solidified it. At the end of last year, she showed up to a Chiefs game in practically the exact same outfit blueprint consisting of a patterned co-ord set, a black shirt, and a pair of knee-high boots. It, too, looked sweet and stylish, but I’m sure it was even sweeter to put together — no fuss, no muss.

Now, this sweater and skirt duo from Lulus is indeed a set, but what about the jacket? Well, I figured if I got this plain one, I could pair it with any black coat for a DIY set that’s still like Witherspoon’s. Plus, I’d also gain a cardigan — another celebrity-worn trend.
That said, you may still want something patterned. Both Asos and Nordstrom have some sensible options, though the outerwear involves oversized blazers and shacket-like types, rather than true coats.
J. Crew Tissue Crepe Turtleneck
Turtlenecks have never been my jam, but once you’ve lived through tundra-like conditions, you learn to appreciate the substantial warmth they bring to any outfit. I found this absolute gem at J.Crew, which is an additional 50 percent off at checkout with the code EXTRA, making it the most affordable option on our list. It’s also cotton, which is temperature-smart — as opposed to thick fabric on top of even thicker fabric, which would just be a thick, sweaty mess.
Modatope Knee High Boots
Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, and more celebrities are elongating their legs with over-the-knee boots, and while I own a few pairs myself, something about them seems more bar-worthy than desk-friendly. (And maybe that’s just me!) But I still think a heel brings a sort of boss energy that flats don’t have, and a knee-high pair synthesizes the two.
This best-selling pair has “a tiny bit of stretch at the top” of the shaft and a square-toe that looks “very feminine,” according to one Amazon shopper. The heel height is also not too lofty, wrote another: “I’m tall and they don’t make me feel like a skyscraper.”
