Bestselling author Rebecca Yarros has another book headed for the screen!
Netflix is set to adapt the Fourth Wing writer’s 2023 romance novel, In the Likely Event, into a feature film. The Hollywood Reporter first announced the news on Oct. 21.
The film is set to be adapted by screenwriter Lindsey Ferrentino, and will be overseen by Kira Cousineau for Netflix and Brian Williams for Dylan Clark Productions.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Dylan Clark Productions and Netflix to bring In the Likely Event to life,” Yarros told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s such a special book to me and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators.”

In The Likely Event follows the relationship between Izzy Astor and Nate Phelan, who meet when they’re seatmates on a plane that crashes into the Missouri River shortly after takeoff. In its aftermath, Nate joins the military while Izzy begins a career in politics, until the two are reunited in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy.
This isn’t the first book of Yarros’ to be adapted for the screen. The author’s bestselling fantasy novel, Fourth Wing, is set to be turned into a television series by Amazon MGM Studios, with Michael B. Jordan’s production company slated to produce as well.
The novel, the first in the author’s Empyrean series, centers on Violet Sorrengail, a Scribe who attends the Basgiath War College in order to become a dragon rider.
The second book in the series, Iron Flame, was published by Red Tower Books in 2023, and Yarros took to Instagram on Oct. 18 to share an early look at the back cover copy for Onyx Storm, the series’ third novel. Onyx Storm is scheduled to hit shelves on Jan. 21, 2025.

Yarros’ new contemporary romance novel, Variations, will be published on Nov. 19.
