Rapper Brooke Candy releases first post-divorce music with wild, racy ‘VIP’ video

David Lynch may have been reincarnated in post-divorce Brooke Candy.

The rapper has released her first music since her high-profile split, along with a video worthy of the late “Blue Velvet” director: eerie, jarring, baffling and gorgeous.

New track “VIP” (with the “P” meaning the same thing as it does in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP”) is a club rap track with the “Drip” star’s trademark sultry raunch.

She posted its video on YouTube Friday.

While it largely defies description, the L.A. musician spends part of the video dressed as a cat, wearing lingerie and shoes that make Lady Gaga’s McQueen Armadillo heels from the “Bad Romance” video look like a comfy old pair of worn-in slippers, and another part singing with her face pressed into the impressive gut of a naked man with whom she is sharing an extremely awkward embrace.

The new work from Candy — who has toured with Charli XCX and Lizzo, and worked with Azalea Banks, Sia and Grimes  — seems to have been influenced by the recent end of her seven-year marriage, which was first reported by Page Six.

“‘VIP’ is the beginning of a completely new era for me,” she told us Friday, “The last few years forced me to rebuild my life and rediscover who I am on my own. This music is about choosing myself, reclaiming my power and stepping into the boldest, freest version of Brooke Candy yet.”

She and tattoo artist Kyle England married in Las Vegas in 2019 but split last winter.

She told People at the time, “I look forward to centering my emotional and spiritual needs as I move into this next chapter of my life. Confidence and happiness are my main priorities.”

Lynch, who died last year, once said of the afterlife: “You die and you have a little time in a dream and, by golly, you come back.”

It feels at least possible that a little part of him is back behind the camera.

“VIP” is a taken from an as-yet-unnamed album that has no set release date.
