Randy Moss confirmed that he was diagnosed with cancer after his son previously denied reports.
âYâall know that Iâve told yâall over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally,â Moss, 47, said in a Friday, December 13, Instagram Live video. âAnd ya boy is a cancer survivor.â
Moss shared that last month, he had a stent put in his liver on Thanksgiving because the waste was pouring into his urine.
âI did have cancer, they found it in the bile duct right between the pancreas and the liver,â he explained. âThe cancer was sitting right outside the bile duct.â
Moss underwent a âsix-hour surgeryâ which included a Whipple procedure â an operation that removes the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bile duct, per Mayo Clinic. The retired NFL player shared that he had been âin the hospital for six daysâ and had just gotten out of the hospital on Friday.
The ESPN commentator, who is currently on a leave of absence amid his health struggle, plans on moving forward with chemotherapy and radiation but is feeling âgoodâ for now. Moss explained that he wasnât going to answer any follow-up questions about his condition but wanted to come on social media so his fans could see him while he recovers. Moss shared that he hopes to have a speedy recovery in hopes to return to work soon.
âAs soon as I get healthy to get back out with guys, I will be on set. ⊠Hopefully I can be with you guys soon,â Moss said. âMy goal is to get back on television with my team.â
Moss also expressed his gratitude for the well wishes that were sent his way when he revealed earlier this that he was battling an undisclosed health scare.
âAll the prayers, the well wishes, I really felt that, my family felt that,â he said.
In addition to spreading cancer awareness and encouraging everyone to complete their annual screenings, Moss is also raising money for cancer research via his new Team Moss merch.
News of Mossâ cancer diagnosis comes days after his son Thaddeus vehemently denied rumors that his dad was battling cancer. It all started when former NFL star Larry Fitzgeraldâs father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., posted via X on Tuesday, December 10, that Moss âhas liver cancerâ and sent well wishes his way.
âLetâs show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this đđđ,â Larry Sr. wrote. âI love you Randy.â
Thaddeus fired back in a since-deleted post, writing, âThis is disgusting. You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you, so check your fâing sources.â
