It’s difficult to anticipate the tastes of a royal palate, unless you’ve been catering to one for several years. Luckily, the royal family know just what they like, including Camilla – and aren’t afraid to let their expectant hosts know what they’d prefer to be, or not be, on the menu.

Both King Charles and his wife have specific tastes when it comes to their tipple of choice. King Charles reportedly prefers a gin and tonic, while Camilla is a fan of red wine – classic choices for the royal couple.
Gordan Rayner told Conde Nast Traveler that the pair ensure they can enjoy a drink without fear of being spiked by travelling with their own supply. According to Rayner: “Their police bodyguard will discreetly carry a bag of their drinks.”

Royal engagements bring tables of handmade goodies and local produce that anyone would be powerless to refuse. For most of us, that means a quick check for change in a trouser pocket or reaching for a topped-up debit card.
But in the case of Queen Camilla, protocol has historically stopped the royals from carrying cash or credit cards during official visits or walks in public. Instead, a royal aide will step in to settle up with a seller or an invoice will be posted over to estate management for speedy compensation.

In 2018, Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall, admitted on ITV’s This Morning that she has a fear of flying and cut short a visit to Australia that same year, with a Clarence House spokesperson saying at the time: “The Duchess does not like flying but I think she has to sometimes embrace that fear”.
Reportedly, 40 per cent of people struggle with anxious feelings when boarding an aeroplane, making this a common fear for anyone heading overseas. But Camilla has continued to keep King Charles company on several foreign visits, showing duty can often overcome fear.
