Queen Camilla is easily one of the most underrated style icons of the British royal family: the epitome of classical royal elegance, she typically opts for old-school glamorous pieces from the most renowned heritage brands, including the likes of Dior and Van Cleef & Arpels, and always looks unbelievably fashionable doing so.

Though she often sticks to her typical styles, she occasionally drifts away from away, and is more than capable of packing a surprise, as she did when she brought out skinny jeans last week for her reception with Dame Anna Wintour in St James’ Palace.

For an appearance at Jamie’s Farm Charity Race Day at Plumpton Racecourse on 23 February, she brought out yet another brilliant look that deviated slightly from her typical style.

As identified by royal style blogger @royalbritishfashion on Instagram, she opted for a deep green coat from her go-to designer, Anna Valentine, as well as a pair of brown suede knee-high boots from John Lewis – a true high-street queen!

However, it was her accessories that stole the show, including her brooch that spelt out ‘Minoru’, the name of one of King Edward VII’s most successful race horses, her signature bracelet from Van Cleef, and a small tote bag from Dior, known as the ‘Dior Toujours Vertical’ tote, which retails for £2,650.

Leanne Jones, a personal stylist, spoke exclusively to HELLO!, giving us her take on Queen Camilla’s look, as well as some insight into the significance of the royal’s choice of outfit – especially the significance of her bag.

An expert’s take on Queen Camilla’s outfit

“The Queen looks fantastic,” the fashion expert said. “This rich, deep green is a subtle departure from what many would consider her natural palette – she typically leans towards softer summer tones – yet in this beautifully cut Anna Valentine coat she made it feel entirely intentional.”

She also highlighted the “earthy depth” of the coat’s colour, which was then “grounded by chocolate-brown John Lewis boots,” and how the combination of the two “created a quietly confident, almost autumnal mood”.

Leane also explained that the family has a “long-term relationship with Dior”, even though this specific bag is a relatively new addition to both the luxury house’s line-up and Queen Camilla’s wardrobe. To her it only “reinforces” this partnership between the two.”

“Christian Dior famously dressed Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday, designed the iconic Lady Dior handbag since named in honour of Princess Diana, and has long been associated with royal patronage more broadly,” the style expert continued. “He is known to have had a deep affection for what he called the “English way of life”, and the admiration has clearly been mutual over the decades.”

She asserted that “this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Queen Camilla turn to Dior, and it certainly won’t be the last,” explaining that the wife of King Charles has quite the collection of bags from the brand.

“Alongside the Toujours Tote, she has also carried the Lady Dior in the past – a bag that also carries the iconic Dior macrocannage pattern– proof that her relationship with the house is both considered and enduring,” Leanne added.
