London Fashion Week sees A-listers descend on the capital in droves for fabulous displays of sartorial creativity – and royals love to attend too. On 21 February, David Armstrong-Jones, the 2nd Earl of Snowdon and 64-year-old son of the late Princess Margaret, made a surprise appearance as he attended Julien Macdonald’s show.
The furniture maker and honorary chairman of the auction house Christie’s, who is known professionally as David Linley, was seen posing alongside his partner Isabelle de la Bruyère, who is the CEO of Opera Gallery and former senior director at Christie’s, and Jack Morgan, the founder of luxury spirits company Chrome Horse Society Tequila.
The son of the late Queen’s sister and the late Antony Armstrong-Jones wore a black blazer and jacket with a white shirt to the event, which was held at The Shard, and he was all smiles. A source told HELLO! of the Earl’s surprise appearance: “David Linley was in high spirits and went on to party with Julien at the nightclub Tramp in Mayfair. [He] was all smiles despite the Royal crisis.”
David’s appearance at Fashion Week took place three days after police arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of King Charles, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Also making an appearance at Julien’s show were American fashion designer and former model, Melissa Odabash, interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and singer Katherine Jenkins.
Royal appearances at LFW
David Armstrong-Jones hasn’t been the only royal to make an appearance at LFW this season. King Charles took a coveted front row seat at Tolu Coker’s show on day one of London Fashion Week. Having arrived at NEWGEN at 180 The Strand, the King was seated between legendary British fashion designer Stella McCartney and the CEO of the British Fashion Council, Laura Weir.
He was all smiles in a grey suit as he watched the runway show, having met with a group of young British fashion designers, including Johanna Parv, beforehand.
David Armstrong-Jones’ last public appearance
Compared to senior working royals, David is seen less frequently in public. He has been seen previously at cornerstone events of the British summer calendar like Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, and Chelsea Flower Show, but he last stepped out with his royal cousins at Christmas.
He attended the annual Christmas Day church service at Sandringham with his children, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones and Charles Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, in 2025, before joining his children once again at church on the royal estate on 28 December.
