Prince William revealed that his 9-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, cried when she first saw his beard.

“Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” the royal dad said during an interview on Thursday, per People.

The Prince of Wales — who was wrapping up his four-day visit to South Africa for the Earthshot Prize Awards — shared he got the emotional reaction from his daughter earlier in the year.

However, William, 42, remained optimistic he could eventually change Charlotte’s mind.

“Then, I grew it back.
I convinced her it was going to be OK,” he added.

The father of three publicly debuted his beard in August as she appeared alongside wife Kate Middleton in a video congratulating Great Britain’s athletes on their results at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He also stepped out sporting the facial hair in September for his first public appearance since Middleton, 42, revealed she completed her cancer treatment.

William proudly displayed his beard once again in October as he was joined by the Princess of Wales for her first post-cancer treatment outing in Southport, England.

On Thursday, William candidly reflected on his family’s challenges in 2024, calling it the “hardest year” of his life.

“Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” he said, per People.

In addition to Middleton’s cancer battle, William’s father, King Charles III, revealed his own cancer diagnosis in February.

“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” William said.

“But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
