The Prince and Princess of Wales live at Forest Lodge in Windsor with their three young children, but they often spend time at their Norfolk property, Anmer Hall, where big changes are pending.
In January, HELLO! reported on the plans for the Houghton Estate to add a spa, and now it has been reported that these plans have been granted. The Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, David Cholmondeley and Rose Hanbury, are going to be transforming their estate into a wellness retreat.
What will the spa be like?
The documentation lists that it will be a “nature-focused retreat,” complete with saunas, outdoor plunge pools and copper baths. There will be 45 cabins too, so guests can stay overnight at the facilities. They have partnered with Wyld Cabins to make these changes. The planning statement reads: “Guests are encouraged to experience their natural environment, to slow down, relax, absorb and enjoy the surrounding tranquility.”

Kate’s new go-to place
Princess Kate has made no secret of her adoration for nature, and she has previously described it as a place for “spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection”. In a video which she filmed in the Lake District in April 2025 she said she found time in woodlands “meaningful” for finding “balance and a sort of sense of peace”. She has also said that nature became a “sanctuary” for her family during her cancer treatment and recovery.
In 2019, Kate and her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were spotted at a Norfolk spa, but the new retreat will be even closer to their home. So perhaps it will become a destination for the Princess and her family!
Even before the spa is completed, Houghton House and Gardens is an appealing destination for the Wales family with its sprawling estate and calendar of wonderful events. From 11 April, there will be tulip displays in the gardens and in August there will be a music festival on the grounds.
The family’s country home
Anmer Hall is one of the family’s favourite places to stay, William previously admitted on an Apple Time to Walk episode: “We spend as much time as we can here, it’s very peaceful.” The Norfolk retreat is a 10-bedroom property, surrounded by stunning grounds. We’ve occasionally seen glimpses inside the estate with the ‘normal’ feel of a family property. Their garden room, for example, features a large wooden dining table, ideal for group gatherings. There are yellow painted walls, plants placed around the room and plates hanging on the walls.
