Prince William was nowhere to be seen during Prince Harry‘s return to the UK in July. While Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were undertaking a milestone meeting with his father King Charles for the first time since Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, William was busy competing in the Royal Charity Polo Cup at Windsor Great Park, his schedule too packed to make time for his estranged sibling.

Following recent reports that the brothers are no longer on speaking terms, when did King Charles’ sons come face-to-face for the last time?

Prince William and Prince Harry were last seen together publicly at their father’s coronation in May 2023. Despite taking part in the same procession, they were seated separately inside Westminster Abbey; the Duke of Sussex sat two rows behind his brother, alongside his cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The brothers did not make eye contact or speak during the televised service, and Harry left the UK almost immediately afterwards to return to California for Prince Archie’s birthday.

However, this wasn’t actually the last time the brothers were in the same room. The pair reunited privately at their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral in Norfolk in August 2024.

The princes both attended the funeral service at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, commemorating the brother-in-law of their late mother, Princess Diana, who passed away aged 82. There are no photographs of the event, but they reportedly did not speak or sit next to one another.

An insider told The Sun at the time that they reportedly chose to keep their distance inside the church, a decision that underscored the continuing tensions between them.

Why did Prince Harry and Prince William fall out?

The siblings have been on difficult terms since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as working royals in early 2020 and flee to the US.

The rift escalated after Harry and Meghan Markle aired private family grievances in a series of public interviews, their tell-all Netflix documentary and Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, which exposed the inner workings of the royal family.

Younger brother Harry credits their falling out to his long-standing feeling of being the royal “spare” while William was raised to prepare to ascend to the throne and abide by strict royal protocol.

Tensions seemingly escalated when Harry began dating Meghan in 2016, with the red-haired royal alleging that his brother had advised him to slow down and not rush into marriage.

In his book, Harry detailed a 2019 physical altercation at Nottingham Cottage, alleging that during a heated argument in which William described Meghan as “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive,” William grabbed Harry by the collar and knocked him to the floor.

Despite recent reports that the brothers are now in communication, HELLO! understands that this is not true and Harry and William are still not on speaking terms.

Prince Harry mending his rift with his father King Charles

The Duke of Sussex has spoken publicly about his desire to reunite with his family, most notably in a BBC interview in May 2025.

“I would love reconciliation with my family; there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has; he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Harry said.

However, he added that the ball was in their court, saying: “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”

An olive branch was extended when King Charles hosted Harry for an hour-long private tea at Clarence House in September 2025.

The biggest signal that the rift is thawing, however, came just last month when King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed Harry, Meghan and their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to their private residence, Highgrove House.

Harry is reported to be feeling “buoyed and energised” following the family meeting, according to The Times.
