Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s new film has sadly failed to perform at the US Box Office – but there’s still time for things to improve.
The Sussexes’ latest project, Cookie Queens, an Archewell Productions coming-of-age story about Girl Scouts, earned less than £250,000 after its release in 446 cinemas on 7 August.
This meant it didn’t make the top ten releases after launch weekend, with a compilation of “world’s best cat videos”, CatVideoFest 2026, performing better.
One industry source told The Times that the statistics showed a “pitiful return”. It’s not known how much it cost to make the project.
However, Roadside Attractions, the independent distributor responsible for Cookie Queens, said it was “encouraged” after the opening weekend, as the production performed well among Girl Scout groups.
The film has also seen mixed reviews so far, with Hollywood magazine Variety calling it “too much of a reality show ramble”, though it was dubbed a “delightful doc” on review site RogerEbert.com.
HELLO! has reached out to Roadside Attractions for further comment.
What is Harry and Meghan’s film Cookie Queens about?
The documentary, described as a “celebration of girlhood and the complexities that come with it,” is a “coming-of-age story about the joys, pressures, and tensions woven into one of America’s most cherished rituals: Girl Scout Cookie season.”
The 91-minute film was produced by Archewell Productions, which they founded in 2020, and was previously behind their documentary series Harry & Meghan, and the Duchess’s cookery show, With Love, Meghan.
The Sussexes made a joint public appearance to promote the film in January at the Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City.
In a speech, Meghan said: “It is now put through this lens from the incredible creative vision of Alysa (Nahmias, director) to show something modernised about the girlhood experience and all the layers of complexity that come with that.
“So yes, it’s cute, and yes, these young ladies are fantastic and adorable, but they are also layered beautiful girls who are about to become very strong leaders and young women. So thank you for supporting that.”
Meghan promotes her new film
In July, Meghan attended a special screening of Cookie Queens ahead of its release.
Following the screening, Meghan took part in a Q&A, where, according to People Magazine, she was asked how she motivates herself when having “tough moments.”
In response, she referred to a comment made by Harry: “He was a helicopter pilot in the British Army for 10 years. And sometimes on really hard days, he said, ‘Hey, but my love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening above the storm, the sun’s always shining.'”
Meghan, a former Girl Scout herself, previously told Variety: “What’s so fantastic about the experience of being a Girl Scout — and my mom was my troop leader as well — is I don’t think you understand just how impactful all of those tools that you’re learning are going to carry through in your life later on outside of the community building.”
