An airplane passenger’s act of kindness left them feeling “weird” after they received an unexpected reward.
In the Delta discussion forum on Reddit, a user named Bald_head_scallywag explained they were flying in first class the morning of Thursday, Feb. 6 when they came upon “an elderly lady [who] was having a hard time getting her bag in the overhead,” so the user stepped in to help.

They quickly realized they were seated next to each other, she in 1D and he in 1D. The woman told the original poster (OP) she felt “claustrophobic in the window seats in this particular seat configuration,” and offered him $100 to switch with her.
Surprised by the offer, he quickly declined the money and said he was happy to switch for free as long as she wouldn’t be bothered by him needing to get out on occasion.
“She kept insisting she needed to do something nice for me, but I really didn’t care and just told her to pay it forward to someone else,” the OP wrote.
As the flight, en route from Boston to Atlanta, went on, the pair ended up chatting the whole way, discussing their families, careers and more.
When they arrived at their destination, the woman tried again to hand the Reddit user $100.
“I tried to refuse again, but she told me to take it and give it to my kids, but to explain to them how being nice to others can lead to something nice in return,” he wrote.

He explained that while he “eventually relented and took her money,” he intended to keep the story from his kids “because then they’ll expect me to pay them anytime they do something nice.”
Commenters weighing in were on board with their fellow Reddit user accepting the gift from an appreciative stranger.
“Accept the gift – means more to giver than the receiver,” one person wrote.
Others were happy to hear about a positive experience on a flight at all.
“Ah finally read something nice about flight journey,” another said.
A user with a similar stance added, “Kind decent people here. You did good.”
