Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has filed a lawsuit against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, accusing them of mishandling his finances and allegedly using funds from accounts they controlled on his behalf for their own personal expenses.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Philadelphia court, claims the couple “siphoned” money from those accounts and converted what it describes as “a sizable amount” of his assets “to their own use,” while also alleging disputes over access and control of multiple financial accounts tied to him.
What Alec Bohm’s Lawsuit Claims
According to the filing, Daniel and Lisa Bohm controlled multiple financial accounts tied to their son, with accounts opened starting in 2019. The lawsuit says the parents assigned themselves a 10% stake for administration of those accounts, even though Bohm is described as the “true” owner of the LLC assets.
The accounts were used for investments, including securities and real estate, the lawsuit states. It further alleges that funds from The Alec Bohm Foundation were used to pay the parents’ personal expenses.
The suit claims the parents attempted to “freeze” Bohm out of four accounts altogether.
The dispute appears to have escalated in January, when Bohm requested account statements, login information and details on his holdings. Rather than comply, his parents allegedly responded by hiring lawyers, according to the lawsuit.
The filing also says Daniel and Lisa Bohm later indicated they had been billing their son $50 per hour for managing his affairs.
Alec Bohm’s Parents Deny Wrongdoing
The Bohms are pushing back against the allegations. Through their attorney, Robert Eckard, the parents denied any wrongdoing in a statement provided via The Associated Press.
“Mr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests, both personally and professionally, and still do so to this day,” Eckard said.
The parents’ defense claims Bohm had full access to the accounts in question. They also say they used their own personal credit cards to pay expenses on his behalf.
Daniel and Lisa Bohm previously owned a title insurance business, per Nebraska Public Media. The lawsuit notes the couple is currently living in an RV and traveling.
Alec Bohm Declines to Comment
After the 2026 season opener, Bohm was asked about the lawsuit but chose not to engage.
“I’m not going to address any personal matters right now,” Bohm said.
Both Daniel and Lisa Bohm remain listed as directors of The Alec Bohm Foundation alongside their son, despite the legal dispute.
What Alec Bohm Is Seeking
The lawsuit demands at least $3 million in damages. It also seeks a transfer of control over the disputed accounts and the appointment of an independent accountant to track all transactions.
The financial stakes in this case are significant. Bohm was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2018 MLB Draft and signed a $5.85 million bonus. His career earnings total approximately $19.6 million, per Spotrac, and he is due $10.2 million in 2026.
The case has no resolution at this time, and the dispute remains ongoing.
Lawsuits between professional athletes and family members who manage their finances have drawn public attention before, but each case carries its own painful personal dimensions. For Bohm, the legal fight now unfolds alongside his responsibilities on the field — a reality he signaled when he declined to discuss the matter publicly.
