Penn Badgley is giving Nobody Wants This the Joe Goldberg treatment.
More than 12 years after Gossip Girl came to end in 2012, the actor, 38, returned the favor to the showâs iconic narrator, Kristen Bell, by doing a voiceover for Nobody Wants Thisâ first kiss scene in his You characterâs sinister voice.
In a clip shared on Netflixâs Instagram account, Badgley begins by giving an ominous spin to the iconic phrase, âHello, Upper East Siders. You know you love me,â in Joeâs signature voice before explaining Bellâs connection to his Gossip Girl character, Dan Humphrey.
âIn the finale of Gossip Girl, it was revealed that the very lovely Kristen Bell was lending her voice to my character, Dan Humphrey, who is the real Gossip Girl. Sorry, spoiler alert,â he said of the series, which ran for six seasons from 2007 to 2012.
âI thought I would repay the favor,â he added. âIâm going to put a little narrative spin on Kristenâs show, Nobody Wants This.â
As the scene from Nobody Wants This when Bellâs character Joanne and Adam Brodyâs Noah get ice cream together â and later share a first passionate kiss â is shown, Badgley uses Joeâs creepy voice to narrate, saying, âYou canât be serious eating ice cream together.â
As Noah admits that his ex Rebecca looks better without makeup, the inner monologue continues. He quips, âWas that supposed to make me feel better?âÂ
âI donât think this situation calls for the bigger person but I guess Iâll oblige,â he says. âI know the friend zone is usually a cold, dark place suitable for frozen delicacies to bury your feelings in by the shoveful, but this is torture.â
âItâs tragic, I know, but how can I let you go if you might feel the same?â he ponders as the pair share a lingering embrace before hilariously adding, âAnd weâre smelling him, quick, cover!â
When Noah takes Joanneâs ice cream before he leans in for a kiss, Badgleyâs voiceover continues and he explains, âOf all the ways to make a womanâs knees weak, I would not have expected handling ice cream to be one of them but seeing you take charge, seeing your eyes piercing into me, makes me certain this undeniable connection canât be locked away.â
âMakes me certain that what I want isnât just friendsâ he narrates before adding, âWhat I want⊠is Adam Brody.â
The clip concludes with Badgley looking at the camera with a smile and saying, âYou never thought Iâd do it, did ya?â
