This year’s awards season has been an unsuspecting affair — and who will take home an Oscar win is anyone’s guess.
Ryan Coogler’s horror-thriller Sinners leads with a record-breaking 16 nominations at the 2026 ceremony, held on Sunday, March 15, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with nods in categories like Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo also received nominations in their respective acting categories.
After winning big at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, however, it seemed like it would be One Battle After Another — nominated for 13 Oscars this year — that would recreate Oppenheimer’s 2025 sweep. That then changed after SAG’s Actor Awards earlier this month, when Sinners took home some of the night’s most important wins, including Best Cast and Best Male Actor for Jordan.
“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” the actor, who portrays twins Smoke and Stack in the movie, told the audience as they gave him a standing ovation. “I’m so honored and privileged to be nominated in this category with people and actors and humans that I love, and I love their work and I love what they contribute to our craft.”
Marty Supreme’s Timothée Chalamet — who won at the Globes and Critics’ Choice — One Battle After Another’s Leonardo DiCaprio, Blue Moon’s Ethan Hawke and Bugonia’s Jesse Plemons were also nominated.
Other 2026 Actor Award wins, like Weapons’ Amy Madigan for Female Actor in a Supporting Role, were additional surprises, officially making many of the categories a toss-up.
