The nominees for the Oscars 2025 are finally in — and there were quite a few surprises.
Several stars were snubbed for the forthcoming awards show, including Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Denzel Washington, Selena Gomez and more.
Jolie — who received some of the best reviews of her career for her latest film, “Maria” — was not nominated in a single category this year.
Though Kidman won for best actress at the Venice Film Festival last year — and took home the same title from the National Board of Review — she failed to be nominated in the Oscars category for her role in “Babygirl.”
Gomez was thought to be a shoo-in for best supporting actress for her role as Jessi Del Monte in “Emilia Pérez.” However, the actress was left out of the category this year and her co-star Zoe Saldaña earned the nod instead. (“Emilia Pérez” lead the nominations with 13 total.)
Washington, who is arguably one of the best actors of all time, did not receive a single nomination for his powerful role as Macrinus in the blockbuster film “Gladiator II.”
Meanwhile, Craig did not receive a nomination for his role as William Lee in “Queer,” though he won best actor for the National Board of Review and snagged a Golden Globe nomination.
Other notable snubs include Pamela Anderson not receiving a nomination for best actress for her role in “The Last Showgirl.” She was previously nominated for the Gotham Awards, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role as Shelly for the film.
Anderson’s “The Last Showgirl” co-star Jamie Lee Curtis’ name was also not given a nod for best supporting actress.
Also snubbed was Danielle Deadwyler, who was previously passed over by the Academy for her critically acclaimed performance in “Till.” She was once again left without a nomination for her role in Netflix’s musical drama “The Piano Lesson.”
Marianne Jean-Baptiste was not nominated for her role in “Hard Truths,” a film that follows a depressed and nay-saying woman and the relationship with her jovial sister.
Jonathan Bailey did not snag a nod for best supporting actor for his role in “Wicked,” although his co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were nominated for best supporting actress and best actress, respectively. “Wicked” was nominated a total of 10 times this year.
The Oscars 2025 are set to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
