Lindsey Vonn is gearing up for a comeback run on the slopes.
The Olympic gold medal winner plans to rejoin the United States ski team, months after she underwent successful knee surgery and more than five years after she announced her retirement.
âWell, itâs off to ColoradoâŠ.â the 40-year-old wrote on Instagram Nov. 14, alongside a video of herself making her way down a ski slope. âI hope the @usskiteam uniform still fits #onedayatatime.â
Vonn explained the reason behind her decision to return to the sport. âObviously, I wouldnât be doing this if I didnât hope to be racing,â she told The New York Times in an interview published the same day. âI have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I donât know.â
The athlete continued, âBut Iâm not going to put myself in a position to fail. My goal is to enjoy this, and hopefully that road takes me to World Cup races. I wouldnât be back on the U.S. ski team if I didnât have intentions.â
