Oksana Baiul’s ex-husband, Carlo Farina, was awarded sole custody of their 11-year-old daughter, Sophia, as part of their bitter divorce battle, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
On October 6, Baiul, 48, and Farina, who had been married for 13 years, informed the court of a deal they had reached that covered custody, support, and the division of their property.
Per the agreement, Farina was awarded primary custody and will be allowed to move from Louisiana to Las Vegas with their child. If Baiul wants to see Sophia, and their daughter agrees to it, then Farina will set up a visit, per the deal.
Baiul agreed to enroll in anger management classes and be tested for alcohol and drugs to “ensure she is remaining sober.”
The order required Farina to list a home in Louisiana and allow Baiul to live in another home they owned for a period of time. Baiul will be paid $550,000 from the net proceeds of the home sale and they will split the remainder.
Baiul and Farina agreed Baiul would not have to pay child support and neither would be paid spousal support.
The deal awarded Baiul all rights to her SAG-AFTRA earnings, including residuals and royalties from her books published during the marriage. She also kept her “extensive high value collection of designer handbags, couture, ready to wear, eyewear, and footwear.”
The exes also agreed to split $108,000 in an investment account.
Farina said he would forgive $194,000 in loans his business provided to Baiul. They agreed to split $108,000 in an investment account, the deal stated. On top of that, Farina will pay Baiul a $100,000 lump sum and another $150,000 paid out over five years, and a 2020 Mercedes after she “relocates to Nevada.”
They also agreed not to trash-talk each other in front of their kid.
On June 26, Farina filed for divorce in Louisiana. In his filing, he listed the date of marriage as July 7, 2012. At the time of his filing, he said they were living in different homes in Louisiana.
Farina said he had been separated from Baiul since November 22, 2022. He asked for sole custody of their daughter, Sophia, born in June 2015, with Baiul having supervised visitation due to her having “a history of extreme physical, emotional, mental and verbal abuse” towards him.
In his filing, Farina said the alleged abuse was captured on cameras placed throughout their former home.
Farina also accused Baiul of abusing alcohol “to the point of intoxication” and called her a “manipulative, toxic, controlling,” and a “compulsive liar.” He told the court that their daughter feared her mother.
He alleged the Olympian often made racist remarks in front of their kid, told their kid to call their housekeeper racist names, repeatedly cursed at the kid, telling her “f*** you,” and had “brainwashed” their kid to believe she should not attend school.
Farina said he had been the primary caretaker since his daughter was born. He demanded his ex pay his child and spousal support. His divorce petition also asked for permission to move with their daughter from Louisiana to Las Vegas.
On August 1, Baiul responded to her ex’s petition and denied all allegations of wrongdoing. In her filing, she disputed that they had separated in 2022 and claimed they broke up on June 12, 2025.
Baiul opposed her ex’s plea for sole custody of their daughter. She asked the court to award them joint custody.
In her filing, Baiul accused Farina of being “psychologically abusive” towards her and their child. She said the videos he presented in court actually show Farina being abusive, not her.
She said Farina could be seen “yelling at, demeaning and silencing” her in front of their at “every opportunity.” The athlete claimed her ex had an “unhealthy” relationship with their child. “He deliberately separates her from other children of her age,” she alleged. “Farina controls every minute, and every nuance of the minor child’s life.” She asked that a mental health evaluation be conducted.
She strongly opposed his request to move their kid to Vegas to enroll her in a private school. Baiul said she believed her ex moved all of the property from their marital home to a new condo he purchased in Vegas for $1.2 million.
Baiul also claimed her ex had financial control over her and she had no financial authority in the marriage. She told the court she had no access to their bank accounts or bank records.
“This level of financial control is disturbing, irrational and obviously an abusive trait,” her response read. Baiul demanded that Farina pay her monthly support.
Weeks later, the exes reached the agreement that resolved the case.
Baiul competed in the 1994 Olympics, where she won a gold medal competing for Ukraine. She moved to America and became a household name, participating in ice skating tours and reality shows.
