Shaun White went for the gold when he asked Nina Dobrev to marry him — and she said “yes!”

The Olympic snowboarder, 38, and the Vampire Diaries alum, 35, announced on Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 30, that they got engaged after White popped the question under a white floral arch surrounded by candles.

According to a source, White had been talking to his has “close circle about the proposal for months.”

“Their friends knew it was coming, and everyone is so happy for them,” the source says. “After the proposal, they were calling and texting friends saying, ‘It can’t get better than this’ and were just glowing.”

The insider believes Dobrev and White’s upcoming wedding will be a “a blowout party.”

“They are the perfect fit together — fun and adventurous, but also very grounding for each other,” the source adds.

White proposed with a 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring at The Golden Swan restaurant in New York City, according to Vogue. To pull off the surprise, White had his publicist send Dobrev a fake invitation for a CFDA and Vogue dinner with the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

“I knew she was nervous because when she’s nervous she’ll make jokes,” White told Vogue of when Dobrev arrived. “She’s like, ‘So, wait, Anna’s not here?’”

After Dobrev accepted White’s proposal, friends joined the couple for champagne and caviar. Then, Dobrev and White ordered Shake Shack and dumplings to The Golden Swan to close out the night.

The actress told Vogue that the three-time gold medalist said “all the right things” during the proposal, and she doesn’t want to take the ring off “anymore” after hiding the engagement for a few days.

Dobrev and White met in 2019 while attending a Florida event organized by motivational speaker Tony Robbins where they both gave presentations. They made their relationship Instagram official in April 2020.

The star of The Bricklayer told PEOPLE in 10 earlier this year that she and White “do date night every week” and alternate who handles the planning in order to keep “things sort of exciting and interesting.”

“One week I’ll plan it and he won’t have any idea what we’re doing so it’s a surprise for him. And then the following week, he’ll plan and it’ll be a complete surprise for me,” Dobrev explained in January. “And we do that every single week.”

When Dobrev shared the news of her engagement to White on Instagram on Oct. 30, she captioned the photo, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️”
