Nicole Kidman’s late mom was a “tough” critic.
The actress admitted to W magazine in her cover story, published Friday, that Janelle Ann Kidman “was tough, tough in her criticism.”
The Oscar winner, 57, explained that Janelle Ann Kidman had gotten her “used to” disapproval, which was “quite [a] good” skill to have in Hollywood.
However, Nicole noted that her mother was a big fan of a few of her movies.
“She loved ‘Rabbit Hole,’” the Emmy winner said. “She loved ‘The Paperboy.’ She never saw ‘Babygirl.’ She loved ‘The Hours.’”
Janelle Ann died in September 2024.
Nicole issued a rare comment about the 84-year-old’s passing, saying, “The more love and the more intimacy and closeness you have with a person, the more it’s going to hurt losing them.
“But I’ll take the pain,” she continued.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Golden Globe winner recalled keeping “a diary every single day” as a kid and finding out that Janelle Ann had read them.
“She wanted to make sure that I was going to be OK,” Nicole explained. “When I found out much later in life, I was like, ‘That was just not good. You shouldn’t have done that.’”
However, the “Big Little Lies” alum has since had a change of heart.
“Now I’m glad she did it,” Nicole said. “And she also knew me in the deepest, deepest subconscious way, so I’m happy for her to have had all that access.”
As Page Six previously reported, Nicole was at the Venice Film Festival when her mom died. At the time, “Babygirl” director Halina Reijn shared the heartbreaking news about Janelle Ann while accepting a Best Actress award on Nicole’s behalf.
Janelle Ann’s final words to Nicole before she boarded the plane were to “take care of [her]self,” Nicole revealed on CBS Sunday Morning in December 2024.
Three months prior, Nicole’s husband, Keith Urban, told the Times that their family — which includes daughters Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13 — was doing “good” amid the tragedy.
