Nicole Kidman and Simon Baker have gone past being just co-stars in Scarpetta.
During the premiere of the crime drama in New York, the two were spotted holding hands on the red carpet on March 3.
After the movie screening, they were also seen going into the after-party together. It looks like their on-screen chemistry as a couple spilled off-screen as well.
Their newfound connection is all the more note-worthy being that Nicole was the one who pitched Simon for the role of FBI profiler Benton Wesley, as she portrayed a forensic pathologist named Kay Scarpetta.
Nicole revealed: “We have known each other for a huge portion of our lives. I’ve always wanted to do something substantial with Simon,” per The Daily Telegraph.
She added: “And so, it was me going, ‘would you please, please, do this with me?’ And he was at a time in his life when he could, when he could make decisions to be away from home and do things that took his fancy, and so it was kind of kismet. He said yes to me.”
When Simon was asked about his kissing scenes on-screen with Nicole, he simply stated: “I don’t kiss and tell,” per Woman’s Day.
Nicole revealed: “Our chemistry just vibrates.”
About their romantic portrayal on screen
Simon explained that he was able to successfully compartmentalize their decades-long friendship for the romantic role.
He shared: “I think any awkwardness about the friendship is quickly pushed aside. That’s the great thing about our job. We don’t spend time over-analyzing things — we just get on with it, throw everything into the pot and see what we can make of it.”
Although the duo kept insight into their budding relationship under wraps, they were both previously more candid about their on-screen kiss in Roar in 2022.
Simon shared: “It’s kind of strange. I think the first time we did it, we both sort of went, ‘OK, whatever.'”
Nicole revealed: “We’ve kissed on the cheek before. We’ve hugged a lot. We’ve lived in the same house. And you know, the woman I grew up with, he was married to for a substantial part of his life … 29 years, so we are just the same person.”
Their history
The duo have known each other for a long time and on a deeply personal level. At one point in time, Simon even lived with Nicole and her former husband Tom Cruise.
Nicole is the godmother to Simon and his ex-wife Rebecca Rigg’s son Harry Friday Baker, 22. The pair’s recent release is only their second time working on a project together.
