Nicola Coughlan Serves Old Hollywood Glamour (with a Twist!) in Waist-Cinching Dress at 2025 SAG Awards

Nicola Coughlan served glam realness on the red carpet at the 2025 SAG Awards. 

The Irish actress scored her first solo nomination at this year’s ceremony for playing Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton. She embodied the role with tonight’s look.  

Coughlan wore a baby blue Dior dress with a belted waistline and off-the-shoulder neckline. The dress hit just above her black heels, and Coughlan added a modern twist with black opera gloves. She added some sparkle with Bucherer Fine Jewellery.

Her hair was slicked back in a glamorous style, and her makeup was kept peachy and simple.

Along with Coughlan, Kathy Bates (Matlock), Allison Janney (The Diplomat), Keri Russell (The Diplomat) and Anna Sawai (Shōgun) received nominations in the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series category.

Bridgerton is up for outstanding performance by an ensemble drama series, which the show won in 2021. However, Coughlan, 38, is the only cast member nominated for an individual award. 

She shared her initial reaction to the news in an Instagram post on Jan. 8. 

“This is a very lovely early birthday present!” She wrote. “I’m absolutely in shock and so honoured thank you @sagawards and so proud of the whole @bridgertonnetflix family 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵”

Coughlan’s commitment to the British period piece has shone through her bold and on-theme red carpet looks throughout the season 3 press tour. 

Wearing a gold corset from MISHO’s studio in Mumbai, the actress paid homage to British royalty at a press event in London on April 11, 2024. She paired the 22k gold-plated garment with a textured bottom piece and off-the-shoulder long sleeves. The corset also included a gold heart as a nod to Penelope’s love of Colin Bridgerton in the story, played by Luke Newton. 

Ahead of the release of season 3, part 2, Couglan played into the show’s marriage motif at a London screening on June 12, 2024. She wore a sparkling blush-colored off-the-shoulder Rodarte gown with maroon velvet opera gloves and a matching bow in her hair, along with a tulle veil that trailed behind her. She held hands with Newton for much of the carpet.

In another metallic outfit, Coughlin dazzled at the 2024 Emmys on Sep. 15, 2024. The star showed off the silver off-the-shoulder gown, which had a structured corset construction with bubble-shape peplum over a long skirt, as she walked the carpet before presenting an award.
