Neil Patrick Harris Undergoes a Surprising Transformation for New Role in Dexter: Resurrection: See the Photos!

Neil Patrick Harris is turning heads with a brand new look!

On Wednesday, March 5, the How I Met Your Mother alum, 51, sporting a different hairstyle while filming Dexter: Resurrection with Michael C. Hall in New York City.

Harris was seen with a shaggy brunette hairdo while wearing a navy blue shirt under a black puffer coat and dark blue jeans. He was photographed walking side-by-side with Hall who kept things casual with a zip-up hoodie and dark gray cargo pants.

Though details about his new character have been kept tightly under wraps, the Doogie Howser M.D. star will take on the role of Lowell.

The original Dexter followed Hall as Dexter Morgan, a Miami Metro Police Department blood pattern analyst who investigates murders in the homicide division while also secretly killing criminals who have escaped the justice system. The show received numerous awards during its run, including four Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

The first Dexter spinoff series, Dexter: New Blood, aired from November 2021 to January 2022 and saw Hall reprise his role. Then, Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series that followed a young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson, began airing in late 2024 and wrapped earlier this month.

Dexter: Resurrection will pick up right where Original Sin left off.

The new series will see the return of fan favorites as well as new faces. In addition to Hall, who narrates the show as Dexter, and Harris, the cast will include Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia SuĂĄrez, James Remar, Harry Morgan and Peter Dinklage.

In a conversation with PEOPLE in December 2024, Original Sin showrunner, Clyde Phillips, said that getting Hall’s blessing and support for the franchise’s various spinoff series was “crucial.”

“It’s important. It’s important to me creatively. It’s important to me as his friend. And it’s important because I know the impact it will have on the audience,” he said, adding of Hall’s small role. “The audience is going to lean forward when they hear his voice, and he’s a huge star.”
