Author Sarah J. Maas topped the list of fastest books to finish with her fantasy novel A Court of Mist and Fury — the second book in her A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series — following main character Feyre Archeron as she continues her adventures discovering the fae world. The book’s estimated word count was 53,500 and it took about 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, according to Aura Print.
Her fourth installment in the series A Court of Frost and Starlight, took second place in the fastest reads category, clocking in at 4 hours in order to get through about 60,000 words.
While Maas may have topped the list for quick reads with those two books, she also heads the list for slowest books to read with the first book in her bestselling Crescent City series House of Earth and Blood. That book, which follows half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she uncovers the mystery surrounding a death of a loved one, rounded out a read time of about 13 hours and 36 minutes for approximately 204,000 words.
Her third installment of the ACOTAR series, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and ACOTAR spinoff book A Court of Silver Flames took third and second place on the list of slowest books to read, respectively, with read times topping over 12 hours. The first book in the ACOTAR series is also a big one to get through, clocking in at over 7 hours.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, the first spinoff book in her Grishaverse trilogy, was ranked the third fastest book to read at 80,000 words and a read time of 5 hours and 20 minutes.
Kiera Cass’ The Selection, which follows a 16-year-old girl as she is selected to live in the palace and win the heart of a prince despite her wishes, and Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, the first entry into his Percy Jackson series, clocked in at around 5 hours and 6 hours, respectively.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, the first book in Holly Jackson’s young adult mystery crime series which follows Pip as she investigates a murder that has captured the attention of her small town, also made the list with a reading time of 6 hours and 40 minutes.
Standalone novel Circe written by Madeline Miller, an adaptation of various Greek myths including the Odyssey from the witch Circe’s point of view, had the same read time as A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and rounded out the list.
Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Inheritance Games, Penelope Douglas’ Punk 57 and Holly Black’s The Wicked King — which is the third book in her Cruel Prince series — also cracked the top 10 books that were the fastest to read.
On the opposite end, Stephanie Garber’s Caraval, Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones, and Taylor Jenkins’ Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo all made the list for slowest reads.
