A recall has been issued for nearly 30,000 pounds of Chomps beef snacks after “pieces of metal” were reportedly found in the product.
On Thursday, March 20, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Idaho Smokehouse Partners recalled approximately 29,541 pounds of iChomps ready-to-eat beef stick products due to their possible contamination with a “foreign material, specifically metal.”
According to the FSIS’ announcement and a statement on the Chomps website, the problem was discovered after two consumers reported that pieces of metal were found in the product.

The recall affects specific lots of 1.15-ounce Original Beef, which are sold in 12-count pouches, 8-count pouches, and single sticks.
Chomps also confirmed to PEOPLE, and also posted on its website, that the 1.15-ounce Original Turkey Stick singles are also recalled. Full details, including impacted lot codes, are available at chomps.com/recall.
The FSIS stated that the affected items were produced from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15, 2025, and shipped to retail locations in California and Illinois from one facility. The affected items’ packages have an ink-jetted establishment number reading “6220A.”
“At Chomps, the safety and trust of our customers always come first. After working closely with our third-party manufacturing partner and the USDA, we chose to initiate a recall out of an abundance of caution,” Chomps said in a statement to PEOPLE.
“We voluntarily broadened the scope of the recall beyond what was required because we wanted to be absolutely certain that any product packaged during the identified timeframe was removed from the market. We’re committed to taking every possible precaution when it comes to product quality and our consumers’ safety,” the statement continued.
While there have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of these products, anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.
“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ pantries. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the FSIS said.
Chomps advises on its website that those who have an affected product should not consume it and instead return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone with additional questions or concerns can also visit chomps.com/recall for more information.
Idaho Smokehouse Partners spoke out about the recall in a statement to PEOPLE.
“Once Idaho Smokehouse Partners became aware of the two complaints, out of an abundance of caution, we worked with regulatory authorities on the best way to protect consumers from this issue,” the statement read.
